Features for simpler and safer selling
Our marketplace is powered by our seller community, so we’re excited to offer programmes and protections to make selling simpler, safer and more successful for you as a valued business seller. We’re also committed to ensuring a fair and equitable marketplace, and will continue to innovate and evolve for our business sellers to ensure your future success.
Introducing Buyer Protection
Starting from 4 Feb 2025, we're launching Buyer Protection to give your buyers more confidence and security when shopping on eBay. Both buyers and sellers will benefit from 24/7 customer support, where you can connect with a real person by phone whenever you need, or start a chat to get quick answers.
What this means for you
Buyer Protection will be included on all listings from business sellers at no additional cost to the buyer or seller. Though there are changes to the way private sellers are paid, there is no change for business sellers. Purchases from business sellers will continue to be paid out within one day of confirming the buyer’s payment. You’ll also continue to benefit from secure transactions, with payments that are encrypted end-to-end and handled by our trusted partners.
What this means for private sellers
Starting from 4 Feb, item prices from UK-based private sellers will include a Buyer Protection fee (excl. Vehicles, Classified Ads and Property), paid for by the buyer to eBay. Learn more about the fee.
Additionally, private sellers will be paid two days after delivery confirmation to provide buyers with an additional layer of protection, and encourage private sellers to post their items in a timely manner.
A trusted place to sell for businesses
For over 28 years, we’ve provided a trusted marketplace where buyers and sellers can do business with confidence. To keep this momentum going, we’re always analysing and optimising the protections we offer to our sellers. With this in mind, we introduced more measures to ensure better protection against inappropriate buyer conduct.
Better protection against fraudulent returns
We’ve dedicated additional customer support to address fraudulent returns more effectively, ensuring faster and simpler resolutions.

Credit for false “not as described” claims
You now have more credits for the cost of postage if a buyer falsely claims that the item isn’t as described.
- If you believe the buyer made a false claim, just accept the return and then report the buyer to us.
- If your report is accepted, you’ll receive an allowance for the return label cost on your next invoice of up to £3.50.
- All negative and neutral feedback, defects, and open cases resulting from a false ‘not as described’ claim will automatically be removed from our service metrics.
This is a limited protection subject to the report being accepted and includes other factors such as seller performance. You can find more details on our Seller standard policy page.

Promoting fair competition for business sellers
We’re dedicated to providing business sellers with every opportunity to succeed on eBay and will be increasing policy protection to ensure a fair and equitable marketplace for all business sellers.
We monitor trading activities on eBay, and we’ll continuously help business sellers using a private account to transition to a business account, or restrict selling activity as necessary. In addition, we’ve reduced the number of free listings available to private sellers. Alongside this, only business sellers will be eligible to benefit from the use of third-party tools and software. From 20 Jan 2025, access to advanced selling tools like Coupons, Multi-buy and other discount tools will be exclusive to business sellers.
