Getting paid

What you need to know

It’s simple for sellers to get paid on eBay

As a private seller in the UK, you will no longer pay any transaction fees when your item sells on eBay. You have the flexibility to withdraw funds on demand from your account (holds may apply) or use your eBay balance to make purchases. By listing more items, you can earn more with no transaction fees when your item sells.

You will find the details about your funds and eBay balance in the “Payments” section in My eBay or on Seller Hub.

Remember that you can ship the order as soon as the buyer’s payment is confirmed.

Benefits of selling and getting paid on eBay

  • Streamlined fees: Fees are deducted before you get paid. Learn more about additional details on fees in the Help Hub.

  • eBay balance: You can use your selling funds to buy the things you love. Find out more about eBay balance.

  • Seller protections: If a buyer files a payment dispute and the transaction is eligible for protection under our payment dispute seller protections, we'll cover the amount of the dispute, waive the dispute fee, and remove feedback related to the transaction.

  • Buyer options: Buyers have several ways to pay, including by credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and PayPal Credit as well as their eBay balance.

* In the event of a bank holiday, your funds will be received on the following day. Seller eligibility may vary.

Access your eBay balance funds

  • Log into your account on my eBay or Seller Hub and withdraw payouts on demand from your balance.
  • Link to your bank account* and withdraw available funds by selecting “Withdraw” in the Payments tab or choose or change your payout schedule.
  • Use your balance to make purchases on eBay directly.

* Some banking holidays may delay your payouts. Learn more on our Help Page.

Connect or change your bank account for payouts

When you set up managed payments for your eBay account, you were asked to connect a bank account to receive your payouts. Your bank account details are stored in a secure manner and are never shared with buyers when you sell on eBay. If you need to change your bank account for any reason, you may update your account information in the Payments section in My eBay or, if you’re opted in, the Payments tab in Seller Hub.

FAQ - Buyer experience

What is the checkout experience for buyers?

Your buyers can use a wide variety of payment methods such as credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit as well as their balance. They can also save and store their card information for quicker checkout in the future.

Please refrain from specifying preferred payment methods in your listings. For more information, see our listing policies.

FAQ - Postage

When should I post my items?

When an order appears as Awaiting Shipment in Seller Hub, or Ready to Post in My eBay, it means the buyer has provided their payment information to eBay, and it’s time for you to post the order. eBay won't ask you to post an order until the buyer’s payment has been confirmed.

Can I offer postage discounts for multiple purchases?

You can offer postage discounts to customers who purchase multiple items from you. To do this, first activate the combined postage option. You can then set criteria that are automatically applied to postage costs when a buyer purchases multiple items. Offer combined postage.

FAQ - Privacy and data security

How are you protecting my personal information?

We only ask for the information we need to keep your data safe and pay out your earnings. eBay leverages state of the art security protocols to protect your personal information and on-file banking credentials at all times. We’re committed to providing you with a safe, secure and trustworthy selling experience on eBay. We have also simplified claim and seller protections to make your experience even easier.

As an additional security measure, we highly encourage enabling two-step verification for your eBay account. Once you’ve switched on two-step verification, each time you sign into your account you’ll be able to verify your identity via an eBay app notification, or by entering a code we send you by SMS. Learn more about adding two-step verification to your eBay account.

How do you handle the information I provide during and after registration?

We will verify the information you provide to us in order to comply with applicable anti-money laundering and other legal obligations. eBay leverages security measures such as data encryption to ensure that your personal information and banking details are handled and stored in a secure manner.

You can view and edit your information in the Account tab of My eBay. We will use the information you submit as described in the Payments Terms of Use. Learn more about how eBay protects your personal information.

FAQ - Payouts

Why can’t I get funds the same day?

We aim to pay you as quickly as possible, but are dependent on the credit card brands (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) and banks for processing and timely funds settlement. You can view a breakdown of all the fees and selling costs charged for each order in My eBay.

When will my funds be available to spend on eBay or withdraw?

UK-based private sellers will have better visibility into when their funds are made available, to help manage their earnings. Funds will be made available, to spend on eBay or withdraw, after the order is considered delivered, which is determined based on the delivery method:

Items sent by post:

  • Tracked: Funds are available 2 days after delivery confirmation.*
  • Untracked: Funds will be available instantly if the buyer provides positive feedback for qualifying orders**. If delivery confirmation isn’t available, funds are available 14 days from order date.
  • eBay services: If the item qualifies for Authenticity Guarantee or our Global Shipping Programme, funds are available 24 hours after authentication or arrival to the shipping centre, respectively.

Local collection: Funds are available within 24 hours after item collection.

*Delivery confirmation is sent to eBay by the carrier and applies to any address type (e.g., house, flat, locker, etc.).

**Positive buyer feedback for untracked orders applies to any order with a subtotal of £10 or less. Tax and shipping charges are not included in the calculation.

Learn more about getting paid.
Note: If the buyer requests a return or has a problem with the order, we’ll wait until the issue is resolved before we release seller funds. Additional holds may apply

How can I receive funds faster for low-cost items, without cutting into my earnings?

You can receive your funds faster for qualifying orders if the buyer provides positive feedback. Here’s how it works:

  • Tracked orders: If the order subtotal is £750 or less, funds will be available immediately upon receiving positive feedback from the buyer after delivery. Don't worry, if your buyer doesn't leave positive feedback, you'll still receive your funds 2 days after delivery confirmation.
  • Untracked orders: If the order subtotal is £10 or less, funds will be available immediately upon receiving positive feedback from the buyer. If positive feedback iisn't provided, funds will still become available 14 calendar days from the order date.

Authenticity Guarantee, Global Shipping Programme, and local collection orders aren't eligible. Learn more about getting paid.

FAQ - Seller protections & Buyer requests

How does eBay protect sellers?

Please see our seller protections policy for more details about eligibility for seller protections. Additionally, as described in the Payments Terms of Use, as long as your account is in good standing, eBay may protect you from unauthorised transactions directly, such as by investigating and re-presenting chargebacks.

Items not covered under the eBay Money Back Guarantee include vehicles, real estate, websites and businesses for sale, classified ads, services, digital content, intangible goods, and some business equipment categories. See the full list in the eBay Money Back Guarantee policy.

How do claims, refunds, and returns work?

In the case of claims, refunds, returns and disputes, eBay applies our policies on when fees and selling costs can and cannot be charged to your bank account or preferred on-file payment method. Learn more in the Help Hub.

What are payment disputes?

Buyers may ask their financial institution to open a payment dispute or chargeback request if they believe there is an issue with their order. Visit our Payment dispute seller protections page for details on how seller protections work and receive guidance on how to respond to a payment dispute, evidence to provide, and when you'll be protected. You’ll also find more information on eligibility for seller protections in a dispute.

Between eBay and PayPal, buyers cannot use more than one resolution method to get a refund. If a buyer initiates a PayPal Purchase Protection dispute, any eBay Money Back Guarantee claims, open order cancellations, or return requests for the same transaction are immediately closed. If it is with a financial institution, the financial institution decides the final outcome of the payment dispute.

Are buyer purchases covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee?

Eligible buyer purchases are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee
