2 x Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector - 2nd Generation

Nest protect
Hi Tech Alarm, Pro's. Beautifully designed packaged and constructed, it's unique and without peer. Con's. Very expensive, the square shape always looks misaligned with the walls! Email warning sent if fire or carbon monoxide detected, but an optional robotic phone call warning to a designated number could help even further and could potentially save life.

Nikon D3s
A truly versatile SLR beautifully constructed, don't be fooled into thinking the new Nikon D4 offers great advances for an extra £1000 or so, the differences are negligible both in terms of ISO and sensor quality unless video is of prime importance. This is sadly a very minor upgrade on a classic. The D3s was an important upgrade from the classic D3 most importantly the 2 stop jump in ISO quality giving photographers an opportunity to shoot at ISO 6400 without concerns of noise, truly a liberating experience for social photographers.

The Nikon 105mm DC in practice
If you are seriously interested in portraiture then you should be seriously thinking about this optic. Although one of the oldest lenses in the considerable Nikon lens line up it is without doubt one of the sharpest lenses available to the nikon user. The lens certainly inspires confidence being beautifully constructed and imparts a lovely hue to skin tones due in part to the glass/coating combination. I would recommend this optic over the much praised 105mm VR macro which appears to have a higher contrast ratio than the 105mm DC, however if macro is your forte then the 105 VR is a very worthwhile addition to your armory. One of the areas of principle advantage is the use of user applied selective areas of focus, turn the ring on the barrel and you can enjoy either selective focus from the rear or the front of the subject. One small downside is that as the lens is of older construction the slightly nosier auto focus comes into play, if you are used to silent wave modern lenses then you will notice a difference. In terms of noise and speed of focus. However this I feel is a small price to pay for what is in effect a unique piece of optical splender.
