Disappointing volume, and skittish on the high end
1 of 5 found this helpful Got these as an "upgrade" to 5.1 x-540 speakers (older model replaced by z506) I've had for years having read that they are louder and having more wattage. Mainly for backyard kids parties. The bass is certainly there but the treble is disappointing with the occasional hiss or pop at certain frequencies. Overall they're probably about equal to the x-540s. Luckily I got them on discount, and at least there are 3 less speakers to plug in, but I'm considering selling them on.

Fantastic portraits
1 of 1 found this helpful I was skeptical because I've been shooting 15 years with consumer gear and actually prefer to shoot between f/8 and f/11. I got the lens used in great condition at a good price so thought I'd treat it as a rental to see if I'll use it or stick with the 70-300VR. Though the 70-300VR is great this is definitely a step up and I'm surprised at how much I like shooting at f/2.8. The only thing is don't put it on a cheap body - at least get something you can AF-fine tune because you will need to tune your body if you care about sharpness. On 3 bodies I tuned to -3, -4 and -8. This lens is heavy and it can cause you back or hands to ache. Sharpness is very good even wide open. (I'm told the VRII is even sharper but with a focus breathing trade off). AF is fast. Ergonomics aren't bad given the weight. Overall very pleased and unless I find I'm not using it due to weight I will be keeping it. For me this is about as much as I'd pay for a lens - I wouldn't pay 2-3x as much to buy the VRII brand new. I'm pleased with my purchase and look forward to putting it to good use.

Much cheaper than original and great value but quality is not great.
Bought 2. One was fine out of the box. The other had issues with the dials not registering until I used it for an hour or two trying to sort out the problem. The problem did not occur on the other grip and I had multiple cameras to test with so it was definitely a problem with the grip. Because the problem went away I can't return the item, and I don't know if it will recur. Disappointing.
