A sense of the fluid in soltd form
Now Tony Cragg is exhibiting in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, it is a very good time to see what treats you are in for in this review of an earlier exhibition in Edinburgh. Works of great beauty, this book helps you see pieces from at ledast more than one perspective (not always done in books on sculpture) and this is clearly necessary for this artist.
Tintoretto: Tradition and Identity by Nichols, Tom | Paperback Book | 9781780234

Art history that ticks all the boxes
How does technique in art interact with meaning and how do both interact with social, cultural and psychological determinants in producing great art. Even the value judgements which equate with the adjective 'great' are fully examined here. There ios no reliance on the myths of art history - Tintoretto's examination of pictorial space emerges as being as radical of that of twentieth century artists. It challenges the notion of there being one radical technique - such as 'cubism' was once thought to be - and looks instead more closely at the relationship between art, maker(s) and audience(s). Indeed isn't that what Picasso did with El Greco and Goya.

Bacon Sizzling
I did not know about Bacon. Now I can't wait for the summer exhibition at Liverpool Tate Modern.
Some of the complexity of the man rises out of this brief book.
