Classic Carre
Hard to read slowly enough. Every page measured brilliance. More complex than some of other stories

Scotland during the 18th century
I've never reviewed a book before but felt moved to encourage anyone to attempt this book - especially if you are from Scotland, have visited Scotland or intend to. It's really interesting to get first hand examples of the major discussions of the day during this period of Scotland's history. This all seems especially relevant now that Scotland has it's own Government again after 300 years. Many of the people that Boswell describe in this book are sad, angry, bemused or shocked by the way that England bought Scotland after failing to suppress the small country over the previous 1000 years. It's also fascinating to see how economics destroyed a fragile way of life for the Islanders. Questionable investments and pay outs meant that the agricultural way of life that had existed since records began were at the time of this book being systematically destroyed, intentionally or not. I would like to read more about this time in Scotland but this book is an excellent place to start. Not always an easy read though!
