Low Audio Power Output and Poor Battery Life
5 of 20 found this helpful I am happy with the sound, the ease of use, and the built quality of this Sony player. There are two things I am very unhappy with. (1) The audio power output is very low. I'm not even using hard to drive headphones but I find a lot of music are just not loud enough. I later found out that the amp section of the player is only 15 mW rms per channel into 16-ohms; the iPhone 6, not built as a music player, provides 26.39 mW!!! Not sure why Sony design it this way. As it stands, it can only drive the most efficient efficient IEMs or headphones and not much anything else. What a shame. I also bought the Sony PHA-3 DAC/amp and that helps somewhat. (2) This thing's battery life is terrible. I pretty much turn everything off except the player and I can only get, perhaps, 5 hours out of it, and I'm not even playing truly high res files or using balanced headphone...
