Great idea, Cheap!
This is just the toy I was looking for, but the cheap plastic gear grinds and only sometimes engages. It is a rubber o-ring pressure fit and you have to open it to turn it on/off.

Inexpensive Complete Kit

Reasonable Value
Although it seemed expensive to me, it was stable with my small digital camera on it even at full extension. There is only so much you can do with physical laws! I am using it for my lightweight 360' camera and the small footprint (tripod) is great.
