modernized version of original
1 of 1 found this helpful A modernized version of the original and as such has, in my opinion, lost it's purity and impact.
The original sparkling magical quality is blurred or disappeared.
Still pleasant, though somewhat bland, easy listening in it's own right.

Superb & accurate costume drama of early 20th century
2 of 2 found this helpful Superb historical drama with accurate costumes and actors who looked - and acted - like the original players. Historically very accurate (as far as we know published history) though, I thought, strangely truncated in some places (like the demise of the Austrian and Russian houses) and over - emphasised as in the case of the russian revolutionaries.
All in all, a highly recommended item for those, like I am, interested in the period.

Takes me back --- highly recommended
Takes me back to the Scotland I used to know - wonderful character representations of people of the time
I used to watch the whole series whenever I could.
Enjoy this glorious nostalgia!
