As good today as it was 30 years ago.
The Canon AE-1Program was a manual focus semi-automatic 35mm SLR from the early 1980s. Compact, solidly built and incredibly easy to use. I have digital cameras of course, but these old SLRs can now be had for bargain prices, and they still take incredibly good pictures. Just get a CD of the scans when the film is processed and you're good to go with super high-resolution files which you can tweak and print just like a pic from a digital, but better. There are many, many reviews of this camera on the web, so I won't bore you with details, but the way to go is to but the body along with the 50mm and 28mm FD manual focus lenses. Huge zooms are available for next to nothing too, but I like my Nikon DSLR with VR lenses to cut out the camera shake in this situation. They take 52mm filters, like my Nikon, so I can use my polariser and a yellow filter for those black & white "Arty" periods. What to look for? Nothing really. It's a tough old beast. About all that you need to check for is that it doesn't "squeal" when it's changing aperture. Even if it does it's not the end of the world as it's a cheap fix (lubricant drying out in the aperture mechanism) but as even mint ones go for peanuts you may as well buy one that doesn't. The light seals will perish after a while too, but this is a home fix for less than a tenner and is common to nearly all old film cameras, so no biggie. I love it because of the "Program" option. If you don't fancy setting everything yourself you can just select "Program" on the dial, turn the lens to the green line, and off you go! All in all, a wonderful piece of equipment. Highly recommended!
Gotoh EP-B3 Large / Oversized Strap Buttons Set of 2 (Cosmo Black)

    No more worry!
Smaller than Straplocks, nothing to go wrong or rattle, and very well machined and plated. If you're concerned about your strap coming off, then this is all you need to guarantee that it doesn't. I have these on all my guitars now, and I've never had one strap even threated to part ways with the instrument. All finishes are beautiful and durable with the usual Gotoh craftsmanship. I wouldn't have anything less.

No need for bulky and expensive locking systems. A set of these, and your strap won't come off.
No need for bulky and expensive locking systems. A set of these, and your strap won't come off. No idea why more manufacturers don't fit them as standard. i have them on all of my electrics now. Typical top Gotoh quality and available in ever popular finish option. Recommended!
