Excellent 35mm Camera with Manual and Aperture Priority
I bought my wife a Nikon FM2 and liked it so much I decided to get myself a Nikon too. I think I prefer the look of Nikon lenses to Canon. I wanted aperture priority because I often shoot in faster moving situations where a manual exposure wouldn't work too well. I like manual focus so I can choose what I focus on. The great thing about this camera is its simplicity, there are not many knobs and dials to fiddle with so you concentrate more on taking photos less on the technology. It has everything I need and nothing more. I considered getting an FA which has a better metering system, but then rememberd my modern Canon DSLR ,which has to be streets ahead of the FA, still gets stuff wrong so I went for the simple and cheaper camera. It has the sweetest sounding shutter of any SLR I have used. Drawbacks: You need to have the shutter advance lever pulled out to take pictures, this is annoying if you are left eyed. The mark 1 focussing screens are quite dark, especially with a f3.5 lens. The mark 2 ones area better (e.g off an FM2). If you fire the shutter with the lens cap on it can take a very long time for the shutter to close. I eventually worked out it can be cleared by changing the speed to M90. Thought it had gone wrong initially. It's difficult/impossible to read the shutter speed in the viewfinder in dark conditions. Foam light seals may need replacing, like on almost every camer of this period.
