High Performance Tool for Professionals on a Professional wage
Well, Apple don't do "cheap" and their stuff retains a good amount of value on the 2nd hand market. Modern revisions of this laptop are great as a desktop replacement where you might be doing HD video work, but still need to occasionally relocate. It is easily portable, but it's obviously not the most portable solution if you're not bothered about the HD display and video crunching ability. A MacBook Air + Thunderbolt display was also on my shortlist but the grunt of this 17" MacBook Pro for chomping video is pretty phenomenal, all things considered. The 4 physical cores are hyper threaded under Lion meaning the OS sees 8 CPU - nice! Plus the 8GB RAM makes the most of 64bit architecture and although Macs (somewhat deservedly) have a reputation for not "doing" games, I do intend to put the 1GB dedicated VRAM to the test once I've found something in the App store that isn't five years old ;)

The TZ5 is an excellent replacement for my TZ1
I got hooked on Panny's TZ1 for semi-serious photogs and casual videography. A few years later I've now upgraded to the TZ5 which has more mega-pixels, shoots 720p video that's "good enough" (for me at least) and - maybe a small thing - the TZ5 has a built in lens-cap so I can't lose it. And it will (just about) fit in your pocket. With a 10x optical zoom. Great!

Easy to use, rock solid, surprisingly snappy for an older model (on iOS 5)
The 3GS works surprisingly well with iOS 5.1.1 and iCloud et al. Easy to use. Will support some iOS 6 core features when it is released.
