Best Bee Trap Carpenter Bee Trap - 4 pack
    17 May, 2016
    These work amazingly well
I purchased four (4) traps and find these work amazingly well. I wish that I had learned about them earlier in Spring - before the flowers started to bloom and attract the bees. The traps are simple and effective, especially when placed on the most sun-exposed sides of my red cedar-clad home. The traps work all day long, they save one from the costs and risks of having to go outdoors and spray active Carpenter Bees with toxic Hornet/Bee killer. I am surprised at how little 'collateral damage' there is; no beneficial Bumble Bees or other insects caught so far. When the traps are delivered you have to remove the trap green plastic molded lid/backplate from the wood section to access the provided plastic bottle. Take special care when prying off the green plastic lid from the wood so that you go slow and gently observing the molded plastic tabs that extend from the lid (like a dowel) into holes of the wood. It is important to attach the traps near areas the bees are already used to, and give the traps a couple or few days for the bees to discover them. The trap's back plate has holes so the trap can be attached with two screws, or it can be dangled by the provided cord. I placed the traps onto the fascia board backing my home rain gutters - a favorite meal for these bees; the traps are attached under the gutter*. I attach the Trap to the fascia board with wood screws, unfortunately the traps do not them but should; the screws I had are bright metal but did not seem to matter to the bees. * The traps are not rain-proof, so in a matter of days after installation in Springtime I found the bee-laden bottles nearly filled with water. It was a simple matter to unscrew the provided plastic bottles, emptying them of bees and water. This possibility of the bottle becoming filled with water is the only reason I rate this four instead of a perfect five stars. Thanks for a fine well-engineered solution to a common problem for owners or wood homes.

Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Hub (MYQ-G0301) & MyQ Home Bridge (MYQ-G0303-SP)

Installation Nightmare - MyQ may not be ready for Prime Time
The concept of being able to RELIABLY control a garage bay door remotely can be nice, especially when one is not at home and wants to let someone in, or if they leave home for a stroll with their iPhone. _______ SIDE NOTE: Before buying MyQ I knew most household LED LIGHT BULBS CAN INTERFERE WITH THE RF SIGNALS OF GARAGE DOOR OPENER MOTOR SYSTEMS. The operating distances of my vehicle garage door controls, and keypads too, quite limited after I replaced standard incandescent with LED bulbs. It was only after I changed to GE brand 'Garage Door Opener' 100W equivalent bulbs that all my remotes resumed working at previous normal distances and lighting was bright enough to be useful. ______ Back to MyQ, being a bit of a techno geek I wanted a new toy to check out, thinking by Sept 2020 the MyQ system had developed to be reliable. But is this a good idea for most of us overall? Ends up I was well off taking a small pocketable keypad and using the remote control built into my cars. This MyQ set was not worth the hassles, and end result for me. My home has two garage bays. Initially I installed the Chamberlain MyQ Hub with one garage door sensor, so I had control of the right bay door. Later I added a second garage door sensor, then programmed the left door sensor. Both seemed to work OK. There were some hiccups with the Chamberlain MyQ Hub alone: • At times the MyQ Hub gets confused and the MyQ App asks me to 'VERIFY DOOR POSITION', let it know if the door is really open or closed. So this is not yet 'bullet-proof' - though at least it asks. • There is some latency that is more annoying when closing a bay door. It can take longer than I'd like for the MyQ App to register 'Closed', this is not the end of the world. • Note the MyQ requires that each garage bay door have a MyQ sensor attached, this gives the Hub door position feedback. The sensor incorporates a long life Lithium button battery. The real troubles began after I purchased the Chamberlain MyQ Bridge: • Somehow during programming the Hub became confused resulting in control of the left door working OK HOWEVER, the garage door opener in my Ford vehicle occasionally activated BOTH GARAGE DOORS when I push to open or close the right door. • I called Chamberlain Customer Service, they are better than most but working within the limits of what MyQ can do. This became an installation nightmare: the process tied me up way too long, to get this to at least 'reasonably well working' required nearly a 3-hour consult one the phone with Chamberlain Customer Care, at least they were there to help. • Chamberlain Customer Support concluded we had to reset ALL components; THERE IS NO WAY TO FULLY 'WIPE/RESET' the HUB! Their solution requires having to WIPE BOTH GARAGE DOOR OPENER memories, I had to reprogram ALL MY GARAGE DOOR OPENERS: hand held, keypad, and IN VEHICLES TOO. • During the set up process the iPhone Hub App LOCKED UP within a section about installing a garage door sensor - no menu item is on that screen to return back to the App 'Home' menu! If I had not had Chamberlain Customer Care on the phone then I would now have known there is a back way to get into the Hub via a Browser. I still cannot say what the Bridge does exactly, though it seems to work though my iPhone 'Home' App I do not yet seem to be able to control the Garage Doors through my Apple OS X 'Home' Application. I do not have enough other automation gadgets to be able to fully see how one can program this to cause that to happen. Furthermore, I wonder if the RF put out by all my gadgets (Philips Hue Lights, Arlo cameras, MyQ Hub & Bridge, home Router and other gadgets) may interfere with each other. This was put in some couple of weeks ago, and to this day the garage door opener of my Ford vehicle occasionally opens BOTH DOORS when I push to open the right door. Makes me wish I had skipped MyQ.
