    What a blending of stories!
I have to watch a movie at least 2 times to form an opinion. After watching Cranford twice, I have decided that it is one of my favorites. It is a blending of several Gaskell story lines woven together into a delightful tale of the people of Cranford, who are kind and good but set firmly in their ways. This movie is so well acted and so funny (especially the character Miss Pole) It's long, but definitely worth the time. I always watch British movies with the subtitles the first time so that I understand all that is said and can follow the story better. Then I watch it a 2nd time for pure enjoyment!

Great to good to downright awful
The first in the trilogy is a classic that every little girl should have in her collection. It is well acted and is such a sweet story of a redeemed life. The second is a good and entertaining story, but there are some "borrowed" ideas and lines. The third is absolutely horrible. It's disjointed, badly written and poorly acted. There is also an explicit prejudice against Americans woven into the story which I found offensive. I would recommend that you purchase the first 2 separately. Or...if you get such a good deal on the trilogy set that you can't pass it up...buy the set. You can always use the discs from the 3rd movie as reflectors in your garden and fruit trees to ward off pests!

    Wonderful
This is an excellent BBC production. Better than Pride and Prejudice, which I love. The novel is even better!
