Optical zoom flexibility and good image quality in a single package
This is the second HS50EXR that I've owned. The first was bought new in 2013 and I was always very pleased with it. However after nearly ten years and tens of thousands of photos, many functions have ceased to operate as they should. The identical replacement bought recently on eBay is pleasingly in practically new condition. It was also accompanied by a useful hard copy handbook (something its predecessor didn't come with) which has informed me about one or two functions I was never aware of! The camera behaves well with all the familiar functions of the old one fully operative. I like the flexibility of the optical zoom (24mm - 1000mm equivalent). Admittedly, whilst the image quality is pretty good through most of the zoom range, it becomes a little compromised at the top end (unsurprisingly). However, it is a useful, lightweight and convenient camera that does without the weight and complexity of DSLR and mirrorless models that require a multiplicity of different lenses.
