Classic, intelligent entertainment
Neil Simon’s play about two friends with completely opposite lifestyles and habits is a classic of human observational humour. It started as a broadway play and raging success in 1965 and ran for two years, then it was a hugely successful film in 1967 and then in 1970-1975 it was a TV series with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. The fact that the actors became huge personal friends adds much to the feel of the production and overall it is funny, witty, lightweight humour. The first series is the best, and closest to the film, but the rest is still great entertainment and something all the family can watch. It is also now quite nostalgic to see what New York was like in the early 1970s

Not woth buyoing
I hate to give this book a bad review, but the truth is that whilst it is clearly a work great effort and love by the authors, it is not exactly a mine of information about the subject. I would imagine that they have researched it as well as they could, but the majority of this book is taken up with track-by-track critiques of all the artists covered in the book. If you want that, then you’ll find it interesting, albeit one person’s view. If you want to know the insider story on the Small faces, who they were, what happened and why, then you may be disappointed.
