Good for the amateur no sew costume maker, not for the professional!
Good for the amateur costume maker who does not sew - the American author uses a glue gun in preference to stitching! Definitely not useful for the more professional costume designer or a competent dressmaker.
It does contain a few good ideas and tips but generally I felt that the costumes would look rather makeshift and shabby (glued seams, painted on buttons???).Strangely I found some of the suggested materials used very expensive i.e. three items of clothing from charity shops, two tubs of machine dye and several very hot washes just to produce one final costume as it would have been cheaper to buy a brand new fancy dress costume with fewer costs and less hassle.
The author is truly enthusiastic but I would only recommend this book to somebody who has never made costumes before and is not proficient in sewing.
I bought it because I was making costumes for an entire production (encompassing different eras)but as I am quite creative and I have experience in dressmaking I did not find the book particularly useful.I enjoyed the sense of humour from the author and the black and white photos of the mannequins in varying states of dress which did make me laugh!
The best books to help with costume design I found were of original plates/drawings of costumes of specific eras eg Victorian dresses and a fabulous book called Period Costumes for Porcelain Dolls (containing miniature patterns which can be enlarged and ideas for pattern shapes).

Excellent quality
Well balanced,sturdy and really good quality. Sits nicely over shower screen,does not move about due to weight. Rubber spots on back and protective covers on hanging hooks prevent scratching surfaces.
Highly recommended.
