Read this for a surprise!
I bought this to replace a 16 year old player that died. I chose it rather than an older model to see whether the most modern DACs are better than in the past. Teac do not specify the DAC except that it is dual channel 1 bit with 8x oversampling. The player is as good as any I have ever heard so acoustically this is a good buy although the functionality of the remote and the display are limited eg no power/standby control on the remote, or volume adjustment. The machine will play back MP3s from a CDR but there is no USB port. However if you don't need this you may get a better buy for features by choosing an older model. Whilst researching the latest engineering data I found that psycho-acoustic studies show no difference in the sound from any CD player since 1 bit was readily available about 1990. They may vary a bit, and one may suit your hearing better than another, but this is not statistically significant nor reproducible in double blind listening trials. Further a modern 'high end' DAC only costs a pound or so! Of course you may prefer the perceived value of an expensive machine but they won't sound correspondingly better.

Good basic topper
I have a variety of toppers and this is the eggbox variety which is softer and kinder for painful joints. It is very good value. Don't worry about the slight seconds bit mine was slightly wavy on one edge but no-one will ever see it!
