Still one of my favorite Nikkor lenses!
1 of 1 found this helpful I had a previous version of this lens which I sold a couple years ago to raise a little cash. I've always regreted it. A great macro lens that is sharp as a tack and works great on a digital body as a portrait lens. It's a nice complement to my other Nikkor primes and zooms and will always be with me when I travel.

Great do-it-all traveling lens!
3 of 3 found this helpful Aside from the well-documented lens creep issue, this is a great lens for all-round use. Goes from a pleasing wide-angle for group shots, architectural and landscape images to a decent portrait lens to a good telephoto lens for daylight wildlife and sports photography. This is by no means a fast lens and it's not tack sharp like my old 80-200 f2.8 Nikkor but it also doesn't weigh nearly as much or require a tripod or monopod for virtually every shot. The VR technology works pretty well and is a big help as the light fades for hand-held shots. This will likely be my favorite "walking around" lens for the foreseeable future, replacing my 24-120 Nikkor, which I suppose will now gather dust until I can bear to sell it. If you own a reasonably current Nikon digital SLR, you want this lens.
