AMI TO USB DOESNT WORK

I purchased this cable hoping it would allow me to connect a USB and play music from it. But once connected, audi MMI doesn't recognise anything I insert in the USB slot. I've tried 4 different USB STICKs none work with this cable. However it does work as a charger if I connect my phone charge cable to it.
