Repair Sub Component or Replace Whole Device ?
As the nylon looking seat onto which the black rubber seal sits looked undamaged, my logic suggested that the leak from cistern into WC bowl was due to the rubber diaphragn becoming less pliable over the years. Although maybe more pliable, the new replacement diaphragm failed to stop the small flow from leaking into the bowl. Purchasing such parts always carry a risk which this time didn't pay off. I have now successfully replaced the whole flush valve assembly with another design based on the original Victorian tried & trusted syphon technology.
- The quality of the replacement diaphragm was probably OK but for me, I would have preferred one of less SHORE hardness & perhaps one made of silicone rubber for long term stability of it's properties.
- Photo attached is the old replaced diaphragm. The dark black at 5pm is a camera flash shadow ... sorry !
