Designing with Succulents / Debra Lee Baldwin
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a REALLY great book for the desert gardener. It concentrates on showing how to combine desert plants from around the world (cacti, succulents, desert flowers) into lush-looking water-wise gardens. Chock full of high-quality photos of imaginative gardens and combinations. After briefly flipping through the book, I knew what could be done to transform a difficult (dry!!) area of my yard. It is organized and written as a landscape design "idea" book rather than a botanical reference of individual plants and growing requirements. A companion book such as "Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest" would be a nice botanical reference. If desert combinations such as thickets of red-flowered Crown of Thorns at the base of an imposing Blue Agave sounds pleasing, you will love this book.

Vegetarian Book with Gorgeous Photos
I love photos in cookbooks for inspiration. And this book is one of the few vegetarian books with gorgeous photos, on glossy paper in a hardcover. For those new to putting together vegetarian meals, this book is really helpful because it plans a complete vegetarian menu, provides the recipes (which use common ingredients and familiar techniques) along with accompanying photos.
Six interesting vegetarian (almost vegan) menus are provided for each season (spring, summer, fall, winter). Here's a sample spring menu:
*Marinated Assorted Mushrooms
*Oranges filled with Raisins, Chickpeas and Rice
*Almond-dusted Asparagus
*French Bread or Whole Wheat Toast
*Steamed Carrot Cake
And ends with a beverage suggestion: Lively white or red wine such as Chenin Blanc or Beaujolais, or sparkling wine or sparkling raspberry juice.

MULTI-CUISINE COOKBOOK
I'm just beginning to try a few recipes in Gordon Ramsay's Healthy Appetite cookbook. Ramsay's expertise includes all cuisines and his cookbooks are geared toward the adventurous. As always, he utilizes ingredients not usually found in the average kitchen and I'm in the process of accumulating ingredients.
For example, I do not normally seek out, eat or buy anchovies.
Today I purchased a can of anchovies to try his recipe for "Fish Cakes with Anchovy Dressing". I just know it will be fabulous because every recipe I've tried of his, so far, has been excellent.
(My favorite Ramsay cookbook continues to be "Healthy, Lean & Fit")
