This kit contains all the information and bits needed to get your feet wet in Dungeons and Dragons.
Although it has only a few template characters, they are diverse enough to learn the basics on what is needed to create your own characters. Which is just as possible.
The Story line is well thought through and covers a lot of situations that make a great cornerstone for future adventures by the Dungeon Master.
This is great to learn with and to help to get to know the game play, the characters and how to deal with situations. And has room for errors.

An easy to use introduction into Dungeon and Dragons.
I played as a teen and now my kids wanted to try it
D&D gaming straight out of the box. the scenarios and character's are already built
Open the box, squabble about who's the fighter/human and who's the mage/elf,
laugh at the person who got the cleric/dwarf (is that racist? moral dilemma, roll a D20)
.. roll some dice and you are playing.

It's great to try D&D out, up to level 5
After that... you'll need books, and then it gets expensive, and the DM needs imagination.
