I have several of these radios and as they grow older they die. This was a replacement for an old radio. I really like these radios for what I monitor, aircraft and railroads. The big surprise was Whistler no longer ships these radios with firmware. It took some searching but I found the free firmware on Radio Reference. Once I downloaded that it worked fine.
