Western Digital My Passport 5TB Portable External Hard Drive - Black

Back up your back-ups!

I have several other Western Digital external drives of smaller capacity to store and back-up my photo shoots. They're quiet and fast, and they're powered by the USB cables they're moving data through.
This time Acronis software was included to help automate the back-up process, but for some reason, the installation, even after several tries, wouldn't complete. That was just gravy, though, and the software snag has no effect on my opinion of this great little drive.Read full review

My Passport is more reliable, though not as fast as Toshiba portable drives.

I have a Toshiba Canvio Advance 4TB portable drive which has intermittent problems connecting properly. The My Passport(5TB) I bought is not as fast but rarely has a problem being seen by Windows 10 (or Win8.1), so I'm a bit happier with the My Passport from Western Digital. They are both with buying, but if reliability matters more than speed, then get the My Passport.

Recent WD External Hard Drive is great.

The recent purchase is great. My experience with external hard drives is that they last 4 to 5 years and then I have to replace them. I've used both WD and Seagate and they both have approximately the same failure rates.Read full review
