VACTAN RUST CONVERTER AND PRIMER 1LITRE RUST TREATMENT

Does what it says.

Used this to recondition a metal BBQ which had a mixture of surface rust and slightly heavier 'crusty' rust. As with all rust converter products, you really should wire brush off the loose rust flakes before using the product because even though it will start converting the rust to a black phosphate based compound, any vibration or impact to the metal will dislodge the outer material to leave fresh rust underneath. This is NOT a fault with the product, but a characteristic of these types of compound since it is not an encapsulator but a chemical converter. Once the treated metal turns black, then it can be painted over however final finish will depend on preparation of the metal being treated.

Vactan rust treatment

Used this for my VW T4 camper which as any t4 owner knows, can be a magnet for rust. This stuff is easy to apply and gives great coverage over the effected areas.

Vactan Rust Primer

I have used this on the rusty inner wings of an old Ford truck.
It turns the rust black and seals it with a latex layer.
It is important that you degrease the panel well as I had some pinholing although this didn't cause any problems with the coating and will be covered by a paint layer.
This looks like a good product.

Rust proofing

Very user friendly. Treated the inside of a narrowboat water tank. Worst bit was removing 2 to 3 kg of rust build up, but once done applying Vactan was easy. No strong solvent base so ideal for applying in confined space, Applied with a roller and easy to see where it's gone cos it leaves a grey/white surface which dries to a black lacquered finish. Roller easily cleaned with water.
Well pleased with finish after a year. A few perforations but considering the state of the tank it was much better than expected.
I've used Fertan before which turns rust to black oxide but then needs a coat of paint to prevent further rusting whereas Vactan seems to also incorporate a lacquer which does the sealing. Great product.Read full review

VACTAN is the best thing ever

I own an old boat with rusting steelwork, rusting engine and rusting bolts. A quick grind off and a coat of VACTAN and its ready to prime and paint. No loss of material and without the arduous task of grinding all the rust off. Especially good for areas which are difficult to access. VACTAN is also non-toxic and does not release vapors unlike other rust converters. I totally recommend this for anyone doing a restoration project.Read full review

Paint it Black

Never used this product before but found it satisfying to use watching as I progressed on a quite rusty garden tractor the rusty brown turn to a hard varnished blue-black in a short while. It then made a very good basis for the bright orange top coat. Of course I can 't know the duration of this new protection but for the modest cost I am pleased for now and would be happy to do it again when the time comes.
