Great Product, Really Hard to Program

I think that this is a quality product but I would not recommend it to anyone who thinks that they might have difficulty programming electronics. The manual (online) is near impossible to comprehend for the layman. It is written in terms that only a ham operator would understand. This radio has way more features than I will ever use or even comprehend. After almost a week of trying to make sense of the manual and also reading an online simplified version of the manual. I was able to program one of the buttons to our local emergency channels which is all that I was looking for in a scanner. I would not purchase this scanner again. It really has a whole lot of capabilities that I don't need. If you are looking for a basic scanner to monitor your local emergency providers, I recommend something that is more user friendly. Compact, Full of Features..... but complicated to use !

I bought this with a view to progressing from traditional scanning to trunk scanning.... Oh Boy ! The manual that comes from Uniden is...... less than helpful.... if you're a relative newbie. I spent several days trying to program this manually.... and failed - and I would consider myself to be computer literate. However, once i floated around a few of the scanning sites on tinternet, i was redirected to software that you can simply 'copy and paste' the frequencies etc etc, and this made it a lot simpler... BCT15X

This is a very good scanner. Bought it for the fire tone-out feature which works really well. If you need to scan a public safety trunked system this is probably not the scanner for you because it does not receive digital, i.e. P25, and most systems are moving to P25 digital standard. Programming is also very complicated and will probably frustrate inexperienced scanner user. I find my Whistler (Radio Shack) scanners much easier to program and use. There is a learning curve with this radio. That said, this scanner is packed with a lot of features for the money if you only need analog. Read full review

AWESOME SCANNER

I highly recommend this scanner as long as your tuning in to analog (not digital) programming. There’s a huge learning curve for this unit. It shouldn’t take very long to be up and running as long as you have the USB-1 cable to program from the computer. If your manually programming, expect to spend considerable time doing so.

Easy to program must have usb cord. Download free scan software for free off internet. Get a 6 mth membership to radio reference for 15.00. That's all you need to make easy.

Uniden Bct15x scanner

Nice unit but a bit difficult to follow programming instructions. I use u-tube videos instead of instructions they provide on cd-rom. Their instructions are vague to non existent

Joke and junk

I do not recommend this product at all they told me it would hook up in my automobile and it did not it wouldn't even power up I am very dissatisfied with this product.
