This is a fine scanner When you finally learn how to get it programmed....
This fine scanner works great for less money than others that receive Phase two signals....but....you must learn how to program it....I used FreeSCAN from radio reference....I looked at many You Tube Vids on how to program it....Finally found one that made sense and it became a piece of cake....I can now make changes no problem if desired rather than paying someone else and then not being able to make changes....it was worth the time it took to be in total control of the programming.....this scanner has so many extra functions and spaces for desired freqs, that you could never use them all....go for this unit and end up with an enhanced brain!....Don MRead full review

Excellent all around scanner
It is an excellent all around scanner with more memory than I could ever think to use. Easier to program with software than doing it manually. The ONLY negative I have found is the scanner does not like trunked simulcast system because of the transmitter delay at each site in these systems. IN order to hear these systems you MUST have the squelch turned down low to #2 or #3 setting. You will not see this in any Uniden publication, but experience and researching the problem revealed the work around to the problem to me. Read full review

The only scanner you'll ever need.
Freescan software makes setting up this scanner very easy. Having a radio reference account helped tremendously. After it's loaded it works just like it should. The software allows you to control the scanner without touching a single button. The recording function is really awesome as well. It may seem like I'm just talking mostly about the software but without the scanner working flawlessly with the software this would never be possible. Reception is great.Read full review

Excellent scanner
Figured out how to program it pretty fast using freescan. With a premium subscription to radio reference and a few videos it was very easy. Which you don't have to have, analog frequencies can just be copied, but makes trunked systems a lot more convenient. It is simple to navigate through the different services if you are trying to catch something new on a frequency you do not have saved in your scan bank. Then can be added later. It can tune into FM as well which is a great addition since I have a roof mounted antenna. This was a little harder to program than the Home patrol scanners, where you just enter a zip code, however the editing possibilities are a lot better, so you don't have to listen to everything in the state. Or have to spend hours locking out stations. I like the color choices for the display, and alternate colors for stations you are trying to catch. Great deal, it was a good purchase.Read full review

Good buy
Great radio, had a minor issue programming but was user error. Luckily I had a wall cable since all that came was a cigarette plug cable. Programming cable worked great. Minor scratches but can tell the radio is gently used. Had Velcro on the bottom of the stand that I had a heck of a time getting off but was able to get it off and wipe it down with a Clorox wipe to get the sticky stuff off. Great buy overallRead full review

Great, powerful scanner
This is an extremely powerful scanner. It's also built very well. Get ready to learn how to program it though. I ended up using my pc to load all the frequencies and that way has to be the easiest.

BCD996P2
It seems to work great. Currently I am listening to 2 different systems one being a P25 Phase 1 system and one being a Phase 2 system. It seems to receive the Phase 2 systems differently. But both seem to work ok.Read full review

Great scanner except the antenna.
This scanner picks up everything in my area, when I changed the antenna. I could have spent twice the price for this and got the one that the "experts" recommended, but this picks up all that I need it to. When I got it, I had to go to YouTube University to figure out how to program it until I found the ARC software for it. After I downloaded the program it took less than 10 minutes to be up and running. I am glad I got this one. Read full review

The Scanner I Always Dreamed Of Owning
This is my dream-come-true scanner. Using the ARC Pro XT software and a subscription to RadioReference I was able to download all of the Public Safety channels and other radio services in my area in very little time and with very little effort. The software makes a real difference because it does all of the programming of the scanner for you. The BCD996P2 has above average audio quality, and the chassis itself is metal not polymer so it has a nice solid feel to it. Moreover, the ARC Pro XT logs all received transmissions into a file which cycles out at a monthly rate. Also, if you tag a particular service or frequency it will also record the audio! This truly is the dream scanner. Previously I owned a Whistler portable scanner but the LCD was too small and the audio to poor in quality. This is a great scanner.Read full review

The best digital scanner
The only issue is the learning curve you need in learning the programming steps... if it goes through the air, this scanner will pock it up. They should add a fold up foot to bottom for home use.
