Packs a punch in a powerful package...

I have owned both the current and previous models of this Sony unit. All features and functions work well within the configurations of a portable stereo unit. For my own description I would not necessarily say this is a "compact" unit. It is a full size box with many functions and features to enhance listening performance. It is heavy to carry around and is best suited (for me, anyway) to sit upon a shelf in my work area. sound/ tone features can be adjusted to each individuals tastes using various preset equalizer functions and the woofer as well. Radio delivers better (louder) tone than the tape/cd selections but it did not take away from the sound quality too much, in my opinion. Everyone likely has their own preferences for sound quality and this unit seems to suit my needs well. I was disappointed to not find it in current manufacture, but maybe Sony will see fit to reintroduce it or an updated/upgraded unit in the future. My listening tastes run the gamut from heavy metal to classical and this unit holds all genres well in sound quality(note- have not tried/listened to heavy bass music, so I cannot attest to its' quality in that format)Read full review

The Ace of Bass

Multiple functional inputs and great sound. But bass is what this boom box is all about. The little center speaker is low and distortion free. The lights add to your experience too.
Sony no longer produces these any more and finding one in good working order will get harder to do.
It's a unique item. And would be at home in the shop, by the pool or a car show.

Sony Xplod is boomtastic

It sounds decent and it doesn't seem used, however, the cd compartment doesn't open. The higher the volume, the sound quality drops slightly. Overall, its a good boombox.
