Classic AV Processor That Integrates Well With HiFi Components

The Sony STR-DA2400ES 7.1 AV Receiver was a well rated processor by HiFi and AV reviewers in its time. My personal use was to replace an ageing Yamaha DSP E800 processor in my HiFi System. This unit is used to link my AV sound sources (TV sound, BluRay, Sky etc.) to my HiFi without compromising its inherent quality sound. This was achieved by using the Sony's Pre Amp output for left and right back to my HiFi Amp, and PreAmp to Subwoofer speaker. Thus only used for Surround and Centre loudspeakers. Works very well. The sound is clear, and welcome the tone controls for slight tweaking, the microphone set-up, and various features that cater for both HiFi two channel use and AV 5.1 set-up (albeit can be used as 7.1 with two additional sub back speakers). Its a sturdy unit albeit reasonable looking, with a raft of various phono outputs that are largely lacking in modern units. In modern terms this pre dates Dolby Atmos, then again don't think my wife will let me get away with speakers on the ceiling etc.! The receiver also has a built in tuner and phono input, which are adequate but not as refined as my HiFi separates. The only real downside for me is a lack of the traditional Tape Monitor function.
