The best intermidiate budget camera

Has great features such as 4K and S-LOG3 recording, beautiful image quality for such a reasonable price. Can’t complain.

Its a great camera, but very frustrating to use.

I am a film maker and YouTube creator that has mostly used canon throughout his career. And I needed this Sony simply for the 4k and 120 fps. I have to say, Its not easy getting this to work properly even auto looks terrible. However If you search A6500 settings for video, you will find a lot of video that will help you make your footage a little better. After I did that its been great using the camera and just knowing that I have all the professional controls I would need for any project really puts my mind at easy and ready to work with any client.

If you're looking to buy this camera, please familiarize yourself with the camera's problems and limitations, Once you feel like you will be able to fix those problems of don't even see them as problems then you will definitely enjoy this camera.

The A6500 is one camera you will not regret buying in the long run.

A very good value to still shooting with IBIS

I bought this camera for its IBIS to use it with vintage manual focus lenses. I have had improved results compared to the alpha 600 with lenses with focal length up to 180mm. I use it with a focal reducer so the effective focal length of the 180,, is actually 130 mm which is what I set on the stabilization.

I have also used it with wide angle lenses which do not need much stabilization.

I bought it after reading that the newer Sony IBIS models are not advertised as having any improvement on IBIS over this version.

The seller listed this well with good photos and a shutter count that was accurate. I suggest that buying a used Sony camera with out a listed shutter count is a gamble not woth taking. Fior reference my 6000 has a count of over 200,000 but Sony suggests 100,000 is a limit. Use these numbers ot estimate remaining life used camera.

I love this camera!!

I wanted something I felt comfortable with at my side for travel. Not only are the images stunning, allowing a lot of editing room in Lightroom, but also the video is incredible, giving me some cinema-quality results. The stabilization is spot on and the autofocus is generally really responsive. Occasionally it will take a second to find what I'm pointing at, but there are so many AF features you are bound to find your own preference.

Make sure you stock up on batteries though! They drain fairly quickly. I have 5 batteries so I know I'm set if I'm on the road. I also bought a portable charging block and that connects via USB to my charging dock so I can charge wherever I am. I highly recommend this!

Excellent product

I'm still chunking away through learning all the settings, but overall for a first camera this has been so awesome. I bobbled on whether to mark it easy to use but ultimately decided yes, because I'm a beginner and don't really know my way around any camera. Every time I pick it up it gets easier to use, and the shutter speed / ISO / aperture selection (in manual video mode) are all laid out pretty intuitively. Great image quality and video too! The mic input was key, so I'm stoked to have that feature as well. Highly recommend!Read full review

Powerhouse in small form factor

The A6300 was Sony's 'flagship' in the crop sensor mirrorless category, albeit only for 6 months. However it is more than a good enough upgrade over the A6000 and in my opinion, the A6500 that comes above this, cannot justify the 400$ price differential for what is pretty much cosmetic changes - I know I would personally love the touchscreen at the back and the improved image stabilisation, but if I was willing to pay that much, I'd pay a bit more to go for the newly launched full frame A7 iii, not the A6500. Turns out I am not willing to pay that much.
Coming back to the camera itself, the visual capabilities are truly stunning, especially the 4K video capabilities - using a power zoom lens is strongly advised for the same. As far as images go, its easier to compare with a benchmark - using the same lenses I found images from the A6300 to be sharper than from my older A6000. The lens lineup has been a sore point for the Alpha lineup - but the average user would have fewer reasons to grumble at this point with quite a few decent offerings at all ranges available, after a few new launches over the year. I'd personally recommend the Sony, 35mmf1.8 prime for street and portrait, the Rokinon 12mmf2.0 prime for wide angle landscapes and astro(over the Sony 10-18 or the Zeiss wide angle for purely the price as the image quality is not that dissimilar). I am not particularly impressed with any of the telephoto options, but the 55-210, 18-200 are equally serviceable. The newly launched 18-135 is supposedly sharper, but you will sacrifice significant zoom range. Will have to wait to try that out.

Time to upgrade your DSLR

Lightweight, compact and gorgeous image quality. I moved up from a Canon 60D to this recently and I can't say enough about the Sony. The images are super sharp and the 4k video is absolutely stunning. The Sony menus still lack ease of use, but once you get used to them they're survivable. This is probably the best compact mirrorless out there right now and I would highly recommend it!Read full review

Almost the best of everything that can come small enough to fit in a pocket

This is the second time we're buying this particular camera. It has 2 shortcomings - complex menu and relatively poor battery life (when compared to the newer sibling A6600, which is a real beast in this area). Otherwise this camera with good optics has brought a huge bunch of wonderful images that barely ever needed editing, and since one got lost after two years - we bought the same model again. It proved itself for being able to take high quality photos while being small enough to fit in the ski jacket pocket and durable enough to take a beating when skiing or snowboarding, but also for being the base for one of the cheapest setups for great underwater photos (and its capabilities underwater are great as well, AWB compensation in underwater mode does a good job).Read full review
