Great features in a tiny package

Nobody would suspect this tiny body to be capable of the processional looking video it takes. In HD, the image is quite soft, but the UHD is super sharp, so it's often best to downscale from UHD to HD. It's loaded with some great video features, but if long battery life, fast movement without noticable hello effect, or easy to use menu's are on the top of your list, there are better options.Read full review

A Step Up for me

The Sony A6500 has greatly improved my ability to take low light photos. It also has made my exisiting A Mount lenses seem to perform better (with the LA-EA4 adapter). I can use the ISO up to 4000 and beyond and still get pretty good looking shots.

I've been using Sony for 8 years. Sony continues to innovate and the features of each generation are added to the last. Since my previous camera was five years old there have been many great enhancements.

Many people complain about the short battery life of this camera. But I think that may pertain mostly to recording video. I take 99% photos, not video. I've been able to shoot up to 1,000 frames (much of it burst) in a single day and still have 30% battery life remaining. My first Sony back in 2010 used the same battery so some of my batteries I use in the a6500 are eight years old and still performing well.

The image quality is great. There is a pretty good set of native lenses available, but I wish there were more lens options, especially f/2.8 zooms. Fortunately my two favorite f/2.8 lenses (Sony 16-50 and Sigma 70-200) are A Mount which also work on this camera.

I think this is one of the best cameras on the market, even many of those priced 2x or 3x higher and even most DSLR cameras.

I very much appreciate the small form factor. I can use the small Sony 16-50 power zoom kit lens and treat the camera as a pocket camera.

I highly recommend the a6500

You can not ask much more for the price!

Sharp images with great auto focus. Low light is amazing for an APS-C! Video quality is superb. I will say though, its not a pro camera. Minimal "on the fly" adjustments and the buttons are cumbersome. I use it professionally and will say what you get above what you will miss is worth it. FYI, works great with Canon glass! Great quality and value

Is it easy to use, YES and NO.
Does it have good image quality, YES.
Is it a good value, NO - it is a GREAT value.
The camera does many things which "old" men seem to not need or want. HOWEVER, it is a very good and reliable camera. Both physical body and electronics are high end for this size camera. Picture quality is very good, not up to the quality of a full frame (35mm) sensor, but! not nearly the price needed to obtain such quality. The noise level seems to be very good (even takes pictures in the near dark without the activation of flash-incredible), and the eye focus points of this model vs. the 6000 is superior. The auto zoom on this camera is limited to operation on the physical lens unless you have high end specific lenses that are designed specifically for auto zooming interface with this cameras software.
All in all, this camera is a quality purchase even with 30,000+ shutter actuations.

love this camera

I personally love this camera.
size per quality per price is really great.
I do post production professionally, files are really beautiful.
handles really really well high ISO. by that I mean, file preserves a very beautiful depth and detail and grain has a nice texture. That said, compared to higher end 35 mm SLR of period 2013-2017, grain is fairly low at higher ISO even at 12k ISO.
Colors of raw files are beautiful.
VIDEO quality looks fantastic at first sight and based on my research prior purchasing.
Camera seems to have more or less all most important professional settings of pro DSLR.
Silent shooting is really silent.
I believe though viewfinder resolution is yet not where I'd hope to see one day. but I presume this has to do with current technology limitations.
my impression is that this is a fantastic light weight, great quality product that can easily be used for professional work.
Especially for Video, travel, portraiture.
seems to me like a camera that is great to always have ready to carry around without much struggle and with which I'd rarely find myself saying ' I wish I had a better camera with me'...
to me, the a6500 seems to be comparable to CANON EOS 5DR, but with 1/3 the weight, 1/2 the resolution, probably less battery life, high quality 4K video (reminder: if I got it right, it shoots 6K and then reduces it to 4K)
Also, very interesting to me:
- has wifi connection
- has ability to install 3rd party applications (like time lapse control)

definitely seems to be a great product.

cons: not crazy how easily USB cable can come off. have not tested wifi download yet though.

if you are on a budget this is what I picked for lenses:
- Sigma 30mm 1.4 which seems to be really beautiful and crisp
- Sony 18-105 / 4 G which seems to be really nice lens as well.
for the cost, they seem great, fast AF, crisp and well built. Not sure how much better in quality more expensive lenses could be

Sophisticated technology in a small package

Have had it only a short time and the learning curve is sometimes challenging. Like most cameras these days, Sony has only a barebones owners manual and there are many features that require more details to figure out. I will need to download the complete manual from the Internet to study. However, this is a very nice camera and seems well built. Read full review

Big power in a small package

The Sony a6500 has a small footprint when compared to a DSLR of the same sensor size.

I wanted a high quality camera with interchangeable lenses that I could carry around without a bulky camera bag.

This camera checked all the boxes for me, would reccomend it to anyone, especially if they were familiar with Sony Digital camera’s which this unit has similar software.

Great Video Camera especially at lowlight

Even at higher ISOs (around 800-1600), video quality is pretty great while minimizing the noise levels. With that said, if you're a pixel peeper, the images may not be as good as what you'd hope for (in lowlight). The images still look great however!Read full review

Great camera at a great price point.

This is a really great camera. It's got several features that are usually found in this quality only on much more expensive cameras. It's dependable and easy to use. Really happy with this purchase.

Good quality cameta, great budget pro-camera

Like any other camera, is not perfect, but have everything that I need for my use, weddings and social events, good low light performance with a fast lens. My main and only use is for video and together with 18-35mm 1.8 sigma, 24-70mm 2.8 tokina and 70-200mm 2.8 canon can't go wrong.Read full review
