A Brick that can kill and make calls.
The phone is pretty solid and has survived my daily uses. I have dropped it a number of times and upon some drops the SIM card will slide out of the proper location and fail to connect with the leeds properly which results in unscrewing the back and fixing which is difficult if you are out in the world with no tools.
Otherwise she is great. Makes calls and sends messages, and the UI on the internet is so bad you never want to use it, so it makes it the perfect phone if you want a no bs phone.Read full review

Great Rugged Phone
The Sonim XP5 is a great phone that is easy to use and offers many good features with ample security. This is a rugged phone that is packed with the features need for a outdoors or working person. I can charge it once a week and continue on my way without worry. If a call comes in that was missed, a light will flash indicating that a call was missed. Read full review
You've been telling yourself you need to cut down on social media and video streaming.Unplug from the Matrix, Neo....
If you are wanting to 'unplug' from the social media/ email/ video streaming world, want or need a phone that can go up to 3 days without charging (trust me: tested and true) and a super-rugged, wi-fi/ hotspot capable phone, don't look any further. T9 texting takes a bit to adjust to (again) but does have text predictions which make texting not as bad. "Push-To-Talk" feature is very elaborate and takes a bit to setup, but, overall, an outstanding feature. I use the hot-spot to power my laptop and can check in on the digital world then. Overall, my social media viewing has gone down drastically and I'm able to pay attention to the more important things: video gaming! (J/K--the more operative word is 'family'). I love this phone and wish I purchased one a long time ago. Read full review

Ideal utilitarian phone but short on apps.
Ideal phone for the no-frills utilitarian minded individual. Personally I picked this phone because of the indestructibility, very long battery life, and element exposure resistance. I bought this with rural dirtbiking and motorcycling in mind. I needed a phone that could go for very long on a charge, survive a motorcycle accident, and be compatible with many bands for international travel. I would not describe the form factor as 'small' but comparable with the average smart phone. What it lacks in length and width, it makes up for in thickness. I did not have any issue activating this phone with my carrier (verizon; requires the verizon version of the xp5 however). The minimal android OS is good but heavy on the contextual menu options. It will take learning to know the phone. Some functions were even undocumented in the Sonim manual (such as setting speeddial entrys). My advice is just go through the phone and get familiar with the contextual options available on every menu. The predictive text entry is unobtrusive and helpful, but won't be as fast as a true qwerty entry method. The micro sd card slot behind the battery is a plus and can reportedly handle up to another 64 gb of memory. Coming from an old flip phone, the voice quality is astounding. True HD voice if I've ever heard it. This phone also comes with 4 year manufacturer warranty covering all damage, no matter the cause. Register it with Sonim as soon as you get it. I have not used the PTT function yet, so I cannot comment on that. This phone's app availability is non-existent. You're not really going to get any more programs on the phone than what is loaded onto it at the factory. It would be nice to get simple apps like weather, traffic, news, etc. But if you can do without those, you'll do well with the xp5.Read full review

This is a great phone. It does take some getting used to after being with a smartphone for so long. But really this is an advanced phone for it's age
