I then purchased a tool to fit this item to find it was not compatible and then had to purchase a more expensive tool to do the job. It's an adapter and it does the job.

It works, what more needs to be said. It's a bit of plastic which goes inside a Bottom Bracket tool so that it fits the new smaller Externall Bottom Bracket size.

Little did I know you need an insert to fit the tool that then fits the bike. Apparently I bought an OEM version bottom bracket. This did the job. Official shimano merch.
