Great machine just disappointed by the wasted water.
Great machine once ‘dialled in’. It heats up quickly, is easy to use, programmable if you aren’t happy with the factory default settings. The built in conical burr grinder is quick and efficient. The dosing amount and grind size are adjustable depending on the coffee beans used. If I had a criticism it would be the wasted water, after three or four single shot expresso’s I have to empty the drip tray or it overflows. As a single man I only make one coffee at a time so it would have plenty of time to cool down naturally, without wasting so much water, before I draw another expresso shot. I distill all my water before putting it in to my kettle and the coffee machine, rather than using a submerged filter, so it’s a waste of distilled water and electricity used to distill that water. I would have preferred it to purge on start up not after each expresso shot. Read full review

Nightmare of a coffee machine
This machine was not as described and did not function correctly, in it over dispensed ground fresh coffee everywhere, at great cost and mess and waste. Also just kept filling up water overflow tray in just making three cups of coffee..... so a total nightmare to be honestRead full review

Better than any high street coffee taste - cheaper too! Recommended x
Quality build, great barista BUT I wasted SO much coffee getting the right combination of quantity, pressure and amount but well worth it in the end. Found alternative accessories on eBay at much cheaper prices for filters, descalers and cleaning tablets. No knock box provided (which IS cheaper on Sage website than any eBay seller) and is a definite need if you don't want to trail a sometimes dripping used coffee bean holder across the kitchen to the sink. Also, this model comes with the standard milk jug and not the one with temperature control as supplied with the 875 model.
Pleased with my purchase and still learning the ropes after one week. Go for it!Read full review

Best coffee machine so far
I have bought 3 bean to cup machines to date all of which have ceased to work prematurely. The cost of repair of my latest Jura machine was at least £300 so I decided to look elsewhere. The Sage machine is less complicated than previous machines but no worse for that. The coffee produced is an improvement on other machines but still takes little time to make. To date definitely a good buy.Read full review

Brilliant machine and excellent service
It's a beautiful coffee machine which makes the best coffee I've ever made.
Sevice from idoodirect impeccable as well. I couldn't get the grinder to produce fine ground coffee. They were great in offering to take it back to repair but then I realised I hadn't locked something in properly in the machine so no return or repair needed. It worked perfectly!Read full review

Sage Barista Express
I’ve had two bean to cup machines but the Sage barista express is in a league of its own,
Yes it’s very manual, you have to load the portafilter with freshly ground tampered coffee.
But the taste and result you get are far superior to my two previous machine, fresh rich coffee with a deep crema.
A reasonable quick milk steamer,
Very little plastic (on the outside, not sure about the inside).
It looks the business and is the business.

Couldn’t be happier
Upgraded from an old, trusty Gaggia Classic and couldn’t be happier. The Sage brews twice as fast as the Gaggia and delivers better quality coffee with every shot.
I loved the Gaggia but the Sage is in a different class. The steam wand makes velvety foam and is easy to use. Once you get the settings (grind level, grind amount etc) it’s a doddle.
Not cleaned it or descaled it yet - I’ll wait until the ‘Clean me’ light comes on - but from the manual it shouldn’t be difficult.
Tamper is good and the frothing jug with built in temperature guide is genius.
Well built and looks the dog’s nadgers on the kitchen top.
Mine has a water filter that needs replacing every 3 months, according to Sage. At £14 a pop that’s a bit excessive. And as it’s a hefty chunk of plastic, not very eco friendly. Not been able to find alternatives on eBay or Amazon, sadly.

A Very Happy Husband
This machine is built to a very high spec and well engineered with all the detail that you would expect from something that Heston Blumenthal would put his name to. I bought it for my husbands 60th birthday. He is a coffee expert-in-mini, its a little hobby. He has only enjoyed the best beans for quite a long time, and had a number of cheaper coffee makers. He is so happy with this present. Is it easy to use? Well if you have had a pod coffee maker or a caffeter/plunger its a bit of a leap, it might seam a bit "techi" but not impossible you will just have a little more fun making coffees and getting the taste for you just right . But if you have been used to grinding beans and using a machine and you are ready to move on quality wise and it will be used a few times a day then happy buying and trying! The big tips buy the beans your favourite coffee shop uses and watch both Heston and Sage on you tube. Happy drinking :)Read full review

Well Built, easy to use, good coffee
Ecellent coffee machine, allowing full control of the grind and brew but with the benefit of automatic dosing should you wish it. Easy to learn to make a decent well ecxtracted coffee; far superior to more expensive fully automatic beanto cup machines i've used inthe past. My only minor criticism is that the cleaning cycle isnt the most effective and over time it seems that deposits build up in the solenoid valve over time which means you get a wey puck. which is a little annoying and requires more cleaning of the head after a brew.
