Cheap alaskan mill

Much cheaper than the branded named Mill but it does the job and seems well made. I can't compare it with other mills because this is the first I've used.
The only negative I can see is light rusting on some nuts otherwise it feels and looks solid and I can now plank up larger logs in situ without the cost and logistical problems of getting large, very heavy logs out of the woods and to a saw mill. Money well spent.Read full review

Almost there

The instructions were not good, and now after I worked it all out and build it, put the 36 inch chainsaw in it, I see that in order to put the screen in place, the screen is to be used when using a long chainsaw and cutting a narrower butt. About half of the thread on the bolts were damaged, so it was really difficult to start them and had to use a file on a number of them in order to use them. The build quality was neither good or bad, it appears that it is just typical of a mass produced item, although 2 of the pre drilled holes had swarf in them and needed to be filed out in order to get the bolt through.

That said when we used the item, it became apparent that this is not a one man operation, but there is no handle for a second person, and the chain that is exposed between the end of the butt we were cutting and the bracket that holds the chainsaw bar comes very close to the leg of the second person so would suggest that this be used on the floor to stop anyone putting their leg into the running chain. The method to cut the boards is left to the imagination, and to my cost I failed to take account of the thickness of the flat surface I used, a wooden ladder, and ran into a screw that we had used to hold the ladder in place. There are no operational instructions or guidance, but they is you tube footage of its use.

I would still say that the item represents value for money, and it does plank tree trunks which is what is was supposed to do. I am going to make some form of cover to go over the running chain between the tree trunk and the bar clamp, only issue is that this distance will vary on differnt width logs, but maybe the last 10 inchs could do with being covered, and I would suggest that at least the second operator should wear chainsaw trousers, the user tends to be behind the saw and there is less of the running chain exposed when the mill is operational.

For the money, reasonable value, does what it says, please rewrite the instrucions would be my main recommendation

happy planking

Seems to be well made, and accurately machined - minor issues with product description

The mill seems to be robust and accurately made. Unfortunately I won't get a chance to try it out any time soon as my chainsaw needs to be fixed and I'm super-busy elsewhere...
Many bits of the mill are actually galvanised steel, and it is not all aluminium as the ad might lead one to believe. That said, the use of steel for various parts should actually improve stiffness but it does mean that it will need to be protected from damp during storage. Considering the price, I'm still happy with the product despite the use of steel rather than aluminium, but they do need to be clearer about how it's constructed in the product description.Read full review

Amazing company! What a product!

I had the misfortune of ordering the wrong size and googled their number and spoke to Carol who was extremely helpful and understanding. They dispatched the correct product immediately with no fuss. The saw mill is literally amazing. All metal design which is extremely sturdy. There is now no need to order a £350 granberg from the US. Highly, highly recommend. Bravo!!!Read full review

Great value well made chainsaw mill.

Putting the mill together is easy enough if you look at the pictures carefully, the instructions aren't that great. Does a decent job of holding the chainsaw solidly. I would recommend getting an 11mm ratchet spanner for adjusting it. 90% of the process is the operator setting up a log properly, so take care and you'll get good results.

Worked ok but slow in softwood with a 28" bar and ripping chain on a husq365, however a 36" bar and lowpro ripping chain on a Stihl 661 is so much better.

It's easy enough to get spares, add a hand winch, extra crosspiece etc if required.

Light weight but strong.

Light weight and strong. Used it with a stihl saw with ripping blade. Made a big difference. Before when recycling we had to drag the wind damaged trunks up the hill. No more !
Iam a woman and find it comfortable to use. So does my husband. I feel it’s a lot safer when the ground around is wet.Read full review

Best invention since a wheel and sliced bread

Will I recommend it? Wholeheartedly without any reservations. Dealing with outstanding company, who really cares for their customers is BIG bonus, so rare these days. Product? SUPERB.
Best experience in years, specially dealing with their representative CAROL.
Will I buy again from them. ABSOLUTELY. When you cut 12 lumber boards tool paid for itself. Adding Timber TUFF tool and you can build a LOG CABIN anywhere. Or dog house, if partner will get too upset.;-) On serious note, outstanding 360 degrees.
Buy with UTMOST CONFIDENCE from this company. I RECOMMEND them most highly.

Alaskan sawmill

I was pleasantly impressed by the quality of the sawmill. The attention to detail in the manufacturing is very good. I do however have a comment or two. First i found the assembly manual a bit lacking and would advise to have it redone, people with no assembly skils would have a problem assembling the sawmill from the manual. My second comment is the the measurment indicator on the uprights is printed and i would suspect with use it wil fade away i think it would be better if it was either punched or engraved. Apart from that i am extremely happy with the product and would recommend it. It is very good value for money

Great value mill

Used mill for the first time yesterday, having previously only used alaskan small log mill. Spent my birthday afternoon milling the large beech in the photo with no problems at all and a large smile on my face! Didn't slip on the bar or twist once. Fantastic value for money. Read full review
