Realistic feel of two cymbals, but acoustically louder than the VH-11
I've been using the VH-11 for many years, both on a TD-8 and a TD-50, so I'll compare the VH-13 to the VH-11. The good is that it performs just as well as the VH-11. The top cymbals are the same size and have distinct bow and edge triggers. The main difference is that the VH-13 has the bottom cymbal. The bottom cymbal includes a similar plunger controller as the VH-11, but takes things a step further. When the cymbals are closed, you can press them tighter to get an even tighter hi-hat sound from the brain. Heel splashes work well on both too.
The bad part of the VH-13 is that it is acoustically louder. When you are keeping time, those cymbals create a much more audible thud than the VH-11 did. This makes sense since the VH-11 only has a plunger for the controller and the VH-13 has a lot more surface area and a hollow area between the top and bottom cymbals that resonates.
If you have a brain that supports the VH-13, it is a nice incremental upgrade. I wouldn't rush out to buy a new brain just to move from the VH-11 to the VH-13 though. The VH-11 is a really good hi-hat controller and compatible with many affordable drum brains.Read full review

Best triggering and feel KiKu
Hi-hat response is highly personal. This is based on what works for my own playing style and setup.
I was able to compare the VH-13 against 14” ATV hats. I spent a few days using each brand. Both sets are excellent for triggering my TD-50 module and while triggering Superior Drummer 3 software.
I enjoyed playing both brand’s, but I decided to keep the VH-13 set. The ATV hats spin a bit. they have 360 degree triggering, but I felt that triggering was affected a little bit once they’ve spun a bit. The VH-13 does not have 360 degree triggering, but they use a system that keeps the hats from spinning. I feel like a lack of spinning, and perhaps the 1” difference in size, provide a slightly better feel and trigger accuracy. They really feel great. Read full review

Expensive, but worth it.
Very happy I got this. I was mildly dissatisfied with my VH-11, and was putting this purchase off for $$ reasons, but finally pulled the trigger. I was worried that it would be no different from the VH-11 it is replacing, but the difference (sensitivity and is crispness) is there.Read full review

Dynamic and More Versatile than Previous Models.
These VH-13s work perfectly and have a lot more sensitivity and dynamics than my VH-10 Single top platter over-a-switch Hi-Hat.

VH13
I decided to purchase this to replace the VH 13 that I already have because it is starting to wear. It is absolutely perfect. These are the best electronic hi-hats out there.

Great addition to the td50 controller
These are a natural progression if you have upgraded to the td50 controller as well as the digital ride and digital snare.
Much better playability than the vh11’s.
