Good Scanner for Those Unfamiliar with scanners
In the not to distant past, police scanners, especially trunking scanners, were more than a bit difficult to program and be useful. You needed scan lists, programming software and cables, and more than a little time to learn how to make your scanner listen for what you bought it for in the first place. The Pro-668 had made this process a whole lot simpler. Put the batteries in it, answer a few questions at start-up, and much of the programming has already been done for you thanks to the supplied data card.
Sure, there is still a learning curve involved. You will have questions as to how to find the specific user groups that interest you (taxis, specific police talk groups, your local dog catcher) but at least you are hearing most of what you bought your scanner for... the action!
If you have bought scanners in times past, and then gave up when you could not get the information you wanted in order to listen to your local police or fire departments, give this versatile unit a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised just how much easier listening to the public service bands (and a LOT of other frequencies) has gotten.Read full review

Radio Shack Pro 668
I'm used to the old school scanners so I can scan 1, 2 or more banks if I want to. This new format scanner seems to be but we'll and certainly feels good and weighty in my hands. The one I bought however has serious issues with the SD card and unfortunately I can't appreciate just how this model functions to properly grade it. I'm returning it. I called Radio Shack, no response. I emailed them for support and they HAVE NO SUPPORT AT THIS TIME. Bummer! With RE on the way out, perhaps that's a good thing afterall, sorry to say. I would NOT RECOMMEND this model based on my experience.Read full review

Way to Go
A easy scanner for "listeners" to program and get into operation. The display has large lettering and can be very brite, makes a great nitelite. Great sound. Nice feature is that it will work when commercial power has gone out. Fits in a shirt pocket. Have had a few other makes and models and this is my favorite. Covers all the different systems except encrypted which nobody can copy.Read full review

Easy to program, good unit
The 668 scanner is a good unit for areas with 800 mhz systems. Even with encryption you can still get most of the action. They are easy to program with a quick lesson on them. They work on all frequency bands and service bands.Read full review

Good Scanner
I bought this scanner after finding out that it is a re-branded Grecom PSR800 scanner. While the manual could be better written, there is a lot of information on the web. It is hard on batteries (I knew this before purchasing), get 2 sets of AA NiMh 2300 mAhr or better and you'll be fineRead full review

One of the best handheld scanners out there!
The RadioShack Pro668 is a versatile and powerful little handheld scanner, the only issue these days is that MOST transmissions are ENCRYPTED so it sort of makes the hobby of scanning dead!. However, the scanner is built with very good quality and scans very fast, I personally find that it works overall better than the UNIDEN ones but thats just my opinionRead full review

Dennis's review
it's not as small or as compact or as thin or as light as my Uniden BCD 396XT Scanner radio, but it is a big upgrade from that scanner radio! better P25 PERFORMANCE ETC... But much less expensive! but poor support! less or no updates, like similer scanner radio's! otherwise, I give it a 5 star rating!Read full review

THE COMPLICATION OF PROGRAMING UNIT
I will probably get use to it but I wouldn't recommend it to a first time buyer of a scanner. The manual doesn't have good instructions with it.
