This is a basic engine hoist like you would buy at Harbor Freight. If you want one in great shape, buy from them. If you don't mind it arriving roughed up from shipping, save a few bucks and buy off ebay. This hoist arrives in two boxes. The small box ships well but the large box barely resembles a box when it makes it to your door. It is ~100 pounds packaged to be moved around on a pallet with other like boxes, not shipped across the country. The pieces had many scratches and deep gouges. Did I care? No! I saved $20 and only had to drag the big box from my front door to my garage.

All the nuts and bolts are in the small box. Only large parts are in the big box. This makes it very hard for parts to get lost. The hoist goes together smoothly, however it takes a while to figure out what bolts go where.

The hoist works as it should. I wouldn't let an engine hang on it overnight, but then again I wouldn't do that with a $500 hoist.Read full review

Boom too short

Boom could be another 8 inches... didn't realize that it was shorter by almost 20 inches over the 2 ton. Tried to save money and got screwed! Would work well on a front wheel drive car. Definitely not for a miata.Read full review

Cherry Picker Hoist

Works for my project. Watch the bolts carefully when putting this together as the directions are a bit confusing or lacking. It would be nice if the arm was a little longer. I had it fully extended and it was a little short of making it to the center of the engine on a 1994 Toyota Celica. I could have removed the front bumper and would have had plenty of reach but didn't want to do that at the time. Other than that, it worked fine and folds up nicely to store.Read full review

Best for your money

While I know there are better lifts, this one is a great deal. Mine arrived late, but the shipping company called and said it was their fault. The box was a bit rough, but nothing inside was damaged and all the parts were there and went together easily. The instructions were a bit lacking on the picture detail, but honestly it was too straight-forward to mess up. This lift is very sturdy once you put it together, although I haven't used anything past the half-ton setting. I will say, it does seem the boom is a bit short, so don't expect miracles from this, but otherwise, I look forward to using it for many years.Read full review

1TON CHERRY PICKER

Well made and built to handle the job.

I would not recommend this for working on FULL SIZE AMERICAN IRON.

I need to pull a big block chevy out of a 1981 GMC SHORT WIDE.

The reach on the hoist is not adequate for the job, so it is live and learn....

Had to remove bumper, grill and radiator support to get the job done...

Alternative use.

I actually bought the machine to build a camera crane for filming a video project. Manipulate the base and change the wheels so that it runs on rails. Awesome!

I have taken ill and haven't had the motivation to unpack it, much less assemble it. All I can tell you is the packaging looks like its been through a war! Large pieces of the carton are torn out and gone, so I'm not sure it is all there.Read full review
