Get it if you can!

Exceeded my expectations. The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ300 is an awesome camera, the best I have ever had, and this teleconversion lens makes it so much better. I must also say that the DMW-LC55 is a superb close-up lens adaptor.Read full review

It magnifies as claimed, but adds little to the already enormous zoom range of a FZ80

Pro: This lens does increase the magnification, but only by 1.6x as measured by me on my Lumix FZ80, slightly less than the advertized 1.7x. The image quality does not seem to be degraded.

Contra: The real problem is that I already have 60x optical zoom, so that raising that to 100x is not much of an improvement. In fact, the digital zoom in the FZ80 permits another 8 times (with perhaps a slight loss of image quality), to a total of 480x, for an equivalent focal range of 20mm-9600mm (35mm equivalent). This teleconverter will raise the high end by another 1.6x, but loses the lower end because of vignetting (below about 200mm), making the maximum range 200-16000mm. Further, although the LT55 can be screwed in directly to the end of the FZ80's built-in lens, that is not recommended because of the extra wear and tear on the zoom motor, so the purchase and use of an extension tube for another $25+ is recommended. The tube and lens adds to the weight and balance of the FZ80.

Conclusion: This lens is good for a bragging rights range of up to 16000mm, but it is clumsy to use and relatively expensive ($100-160).

I have not tried the associated close-up lens, because it appears to be just a +10 diopter filter and costs about $60.

Addendum. I have now also tried this teleconverter on the 14-140mm (28-280mm equivalent) zoom lens of my Lumix GF3 (micro 4/3) camera. Again, it increases the high end of the zoom by about 1.6x or 1.7x, pushing the upper focal length to about 230mm (460mm equivalent). And again, the usable lower end must be raised to avoid vignetting, to about 50mm (100mm equivalent), so that the effective zoom ratio is reduced from 10x to about 4.6x. However, by using the digital zoom and reducing the megapixel count, the lens can be used up to 8 times the upper range, with some loss of image quality. The extender screws directly into the end of the zoom, which is extended manually, and the extra weight and balance are not bad. So overall, this teleconverter is just barely worth using for me on either of my cameras.
