This mic is excellent for recording and, live vocals. It has been called "The Poor Man's U87." I have put it up against many mics priced higher and hailed as "Industry Standard" and, it outperformed just about every mic that I compared it to, side by side. Beware of fakes made in China. These mics were made in Russia and are no longer made so, you'll have to buy a used one. I've seen it modified but, it sounds great as is! I highly recommend this mic for home and studio recordings. Old school very nice sound

If you like the actual very crisp with high end this mics will not impress you. What make them very special is the way the capture the middle range with a roll off at the very high end. This make the “warm” tone that is very beautiful for me. I also like the proximity effect that maintain a powerful lows without loosing the clarity needed and if still needed more add the high pass filter. I like them very much with strings instruments. The mics suffer a lot of micro phonic problem, yes they need fixing this, but if you are recording low volume instruments in well controlled spaces or even not so well controlled, the mics just may help you bringing all the warm mid tones with very good definition. If you to modify them and increase all the high ends for more contemporary sound, also they are very easy to modify. For the price this mics can offer a unique sound that is complete different that the modern mics fabricate today without sacrificing any definition and clarity for voice over. Remember that I am not any specialist on this theme, I just like music and now I am recording more of it with my mics and recording software finding this Octava MK-319 been a very good as they are. Modifying them may make the sound more contemporary but this is no return decision and already I have few others mics that can do this job. I like them a lot the way they “listen” sound. Does it sound good? NO, It's a shock mount for a mic (DUMB!)
Is it easy to use? Yes, it fits my two LDC Oktava mics well, and the wing nut works better than another style MIC shockmount I have.
