The lens works exactly as it should. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the auto-focus functions in a variety of settings; this is actually the first non-manual focus lens I've ever owned and I must tip my hat to Nikon with regards to how they've implemented autofocus. Nikon 18-55mm AF-P lens

This lens is VERY, VERY sharp. It is MUCH sharper than the older AF-S version. I liked my first one so much that I purchased a second one (in case I do happen to drop it, or damage the first one I bought.) This is probably the sharpest lens you are going to find to cover this particular range. ALSO, it focuses VERY close. I bought the "International" version (Gray Market) for about $100. Whe it has virtually no warranty, it worked just fine right out of the box. For $100 i will not have much to worry about if I have to pitch it later. Read full review

MUST HAVE at any skill level.

The 18-55mm has basically been reviewed till it hurts. Universally this is applauded as a clear lens and can be used in almost any situation. It's HIGHLY recommended, especially if it's your first or only lens.

The only downside about this lens is the durability. As an enthusiast photographer who takes care of my equipment, I'm on my second 18-55 after about 100k photos with the last one. Most of my use has been outside, it saw rain and snow, and it's taken two soft tumbles indoors on carpet. They're simply not built like the professional grade lenses, but that's not a big deal since they cost SIGNIFICANTLY less than the pro grade. Use it till you loose it, then buy another or upgrade. Best of the 18-55s

The sharpest of the 18-55s. Plasticiky and a plastic lens mount make it for light duty only. I bought this as a small, light, inexpensive lens on a backup camera.

Good basic kit lens

The Nikon kit lenses are just fine. The AF-P version is better than this older AF-S VRII, but this one is very good too. I've used both over the years and for the money they are good value.
