This camera was purchased for my 15 year old grandson. I have used the same model Nikkon camera for several years and love it. I was very happy to find this model at an affordable price. Have some knowledge. Moderate to wannabe photographer in a more serious way will find this accommodating. If you want to take pictures of the kids and trips something a little cheaper would be easier. But it rocks it you need the pixies. I'm still only about a third done of the 256 page manual, but already I've taken high quality shots. Being used to a point-and-shoot, I'm adjusting to the extra settings, but they seem quite manageable and useful, once I get more familiar with the camera.
