Good value, less intrusive dashcam - shame about the App.

Replaced a faulty older generation Nextbase dashcam with this more simple model. Recording quality very good.
Two issues - the set up instructions that come in the box don’t mention how to easily format the SD-card (you simply hold down the red button with the exclamation mark for 5 seconds and it’s done). This is an oversight given this dashcam has to format every SD card you use before it will work.
I messed around for ages trying to format the card in my laptop but the dashcam still kept saying ‘format SD Card’ (yes, it speaks!) and also trying to use the ‘format SD card’ function in the app (which it won’t do first time of using).
Deep in the online help you’ll learn that new SD cards have to be formatted by this dashcam - and how to do it, as described above. It would save a heap of time adding this to the quick set up guide.

The other grumble is the App. It’s very temperamental and often disconnects when you’re using it, which is really annoying given this is the only way to control this camera beyond the basic set up.

For the price - which was excellent value - this is a good dashcam, which I’d rate excellent with some improvements mentioned. Read full review

Very basic with frustrating app connection.

I think the camera itself is good quality, the issue is the supporting nextbase app that you use to retrieve recordings and adjust the settings of the dash cam. It creates a wifi hotspot that you then link your phone/tablet to. This is a real hit and miss affair that does not work most of the time. Also the mount and camera are a combined unit held on by a double sided tape pad, this is a pain should you wish to remove the camera and move it to another location or vehicle. Next base reassures

Next base is easy to get started and has some great
Features like connecting to your phone via Wi-Fi recording 1 minute at a time and ease of downloading footage to your phone . Not do good it’s far to sensitive and detecting bumps that it thinks are impacts even on the lowest setting it registers acceleration of the car thinking that’s a bump. Nextbase 300W dash cam small and discrete

Easy to install in car, very small and discrete. the phone app is a bit fiddly but it is quicker to remove the sd card to review your video files. It does what I need it to do so far.

Easy to install and set up, Wifi works well. Great angle of view and quality. Looking from outside the car it's difficult see that you have a Dashcam fitted, very discrete. Can't think of anything negative to say about it.
Update. After using the dash cam for a while I've found it's biggest flaw. When powered from a supply controlled by the ignition, i.e. not live all the time. it looses the set date and time because the internal capacitors do not hold enough charge to last for more than a few minutes. Could be better

This only records 1 minute at a time. The motion sensor is too sensitive, it is activated on all setting by the wipers. It also doesn't seem to keep the correct time. You set the time, but it just goes back to a random time. It's quality is fine but I expected better from a reputable make.Read full review
