Be careful what model you get as the picture and build quality drops massively with the later models

There are actually several different versions of the MBP50, but this is poorly advertised.

There is a massive difference in build and picture quality between the models.

The original MBP50 is a far superior model. It comes with an aerial at the back they can be lifted up. The picture quality is amazing.

There is then a MBP50-A which is the latest model. This does NOT have an external aerial. It also charges by microUSB rather than DC cable. This product is garbage. The picture quality is awful and the monitor feels really cheap and nasty.

To complicate matters further, there is another version that comes in between these. It is still a MBP50, and has the pop up aerial. But it is a newer version of the original. The differences are subtle unless you have both MBP50s together. But the interface has been updated and looks like the MBP50-A. The picture quality has dropped compared to the original MBP50, but is nowhere near as bad as the MBP50-A.

FYI - you have the option of pairing additional cameras to your monitor. However, they will NOT pair if you are using different versions of the MBP50. As there are 3 different versions out there, buying a second set on eBay to get additional cameras to pair to your original unit is unlikely to work unless you are very luck and manage to get the same model.

monitor screen doesn't work 2 months in

After receiving the unit I fully charged it and tested the monitor, the range was good and everything seemed to work. I then put it away and waited for my baby to arrive. After recharging the unit the screen was no longer working, it was still paired to the camera as I could hear the microphone picking movement up. The screen was so dark I thought it was off, but shining my phone torch on I could see the faintest image of the background. It looks like the backlighting has died. As I discovered the fault after 30 days I am having a nightmare with the seller ignoring my requests to replace. Hopefully eBay customer services can help but it is a headache I don't need just days before the due date!!Read full review

Not built like they used to be.

I think someone at Motorola made some cost savings on this model.

I had one of these for my first child and it was great. I bought another from eBay and it was so terrible I returned it suspecting it was counterfeit.

The camera quality is much worse than it used to be and in low light conditions it switches to night vision too early and then just displays a white screen as it's too bright for the night vision to cope.

I went on to buy the same unit from John Lewis that while genuine still had the night vision issue.

I am very disappointed in the quality and I would advise others to find a different manufacturer.

Baby monitors seem over priced across the board so was happy to get a second hand mbp50. I'm happy with this one so far. It replaces a BT 6000 which crops the image rather than physical angling left to right. The recorded lullabies on the Motorola are way better than the digital one BT seem to have borrowed from a low budget 80's video game. Read full review
