Maxell MXSP-SB3000 Sound Bar / Wireless Subwoofer

A surprisingly competent solution to poor TV sound quality for flats and smaller houses.

With this soundbar my large TV suddenly sounds like an effort is being made to produce decent sound. I recommend using the SRS mode as it nicely fills my mid-sized room with sufficient sound for a blockbuster!

Another unexpected bonus it that there is a 5V USB charging port on the front of the unit. I find myself plugging in my phone and using the system for music (via blutooth as the USB charge port is not an audio input).

As i say, a competent and tidy solution to sound on a modern large tv.

Two minor niggles are:
1) Argos Richmond complained to me about the large size of the unit when I went to collect it. Other bigger stores might have no problem with it.

2) Several of the sound options are not available from the unit's panel and the remote is the only way to access them. As it is not a hugely robust remote this gives cause for some concern.Read full review

Worth the money

Technically not a sound bar, it's a sound base and it's big. Sits well on my big tv stand shelf and delivers good base from two subs underneath the unit - no separate speaker. Can handle secondary inputs.

Difficult to set up.

Poor synchronisation, instructions are insufficient. I had to get a professional to connect it.

First rate audio at a budget price

Check the measurements before you commit - it's more of a soundbase and than a soundbar, around the size of a 40" TV! That said, you'd be better buying a bigger TV unit than not buying this soundbar/-base/-thing. The sound is huge. Two 30-watt speakers and a 100-watt sub-woofer really bring the noise (and yes, you can minimise the bass effect if you need to). For its size and price, this is not to be sniffed at.

What really sells it at this price point is the massive selection of inputs. 3 HDMI ports, optical, co-axial, RCA and 3.5mm line-in, Bluetooth 4.0 - the only thing missing is a full-size mic input (and that's really not what this unit is for anyway). Remote control and on-unit controls provide full access, but HDMI ARC support means that I rarely need to use them for listening to anything from the TV.

A slew of extra features gets kudos for thoroughness. The SRS processor does a good job at bringing 2-channel audio to life, and the EQ pre-sets are actually useful - I use three of them regularly. USB charging port is nice, I like the dimmable screen, on-unit control-panel is slick. This is the home audio product you've been looking for.Read full review

Great unit

This sound bar is great. Well made and stands under the TV .My tv is a42" you do need a cabinet that's at least 18" deepAnd around 3.5feet wide. This sound is very good .ther remote unit. Great Sound but very large size

I have the room for a large soundbase so it was perfect for me. It is however large so check your dimensions before ordering.
Sound in 'standard' mode is not brilliant but in SRS mode it is superb - mine permanently in SRS. Bass is also very good and can be adjusted so can turn bass down when kids go to bed.
Bought mine as a 'return' from Tesco Direct for a bargain price. It had never been opened, suspect someone got a shock when they discovered how big it was.Read full review
