Makita DHP458 Cordless Drill

What a great drill

Feels like handling a corded drill it is so powerful. Much better and heavier than the smaller Makita combi's I bought before which I was impressed with at the time. This one is a revelation. I don't think it will stall or burn out so quick when drilling into say green wood.

If you can find one at a good price then get this, not one of the lesser Makita combi's. Compared to those the added torque is awesome. THIS IS NOT A TOY!

I have to say, only difference from corded on the downside (like all battery drills I have come across) is that it does not have the drill speed of a corded. Apart from that it is hard to tell the difference in use, other than the brilliant convenience of this drill.

I have got the Makita LXT impact driver and the bigger SDS 18V LXT so battery power fulfils all my drilling needs apart from core drilling in masonry and breaking rocks. What a wonderful world we now live in :)Read full review

well built drill.

Its worth paying a bit extra for the BHP458 compared with the economy makita combi drills. Left it with the lad to drill 50 or so rawl plugs into a concrete floor to install underfloor heating. Did the lot on a single charge 5.5 amp battery without over heating. Read full review

Great piece of kit - love it.

I purchased this to replace a low priced 18v drill, and to match my impact driver.

Wow, just wow. What a different it makes using it on all modes (hammer & drill etc) compared to my old one.>
This has some serious power and the metal chuck is a good option too. I use a 5amp battery (not genuine), but it soon ate that for prolonged use.

A versatile and powerful pair of tools. Once you have used an impact driver like this, nothing else will do. Care need for prolonged drilling of steel etc as the motor will become very hot and can burn out. For the price, a very good investment. Very professional drill

An excellent driller. Holding woodwork .. Iron ... But when I drilled with it in concrete it was hard for me to drill in concrete .... In my opinion, whoever needs it for concrete drilling will buy a Rotary Hammer ... doing a better job. Beyond that is an excellent drill!Read full review
