It’s OK for what I wanted it for.
I buy ready to burn pre split hardwood logs but some are too large for my stove. Also I like to get the fire started with smaller pieces.
I now use this splitter to re split some logs into smaller pieces.
Most logs that I have tried it with split fine, but i have found a couple that just refused to do so..
I have an axe but i avoid using it as the vibration hurts my arthritic fingers.Read full review

Ok, but doesn’t last forever
So I rated good value but why only three stars? Well, we split a shed load of green walnut logs with it. All were within size specifications. I would say I’d you are a strong person it will be much quicker with a felling axe or maul. But this works so well for a smaller person or perhaps older person.
Also it likes nice round logs and a good square cut. Can struggle otherwise.
So we used it for several hours over three days and by the third day it was starting to fall apart. I figure that’s about two - three years of normal use / logs for our burner.
Am I upset with this - well, it should last longer but had it failed splitting a few logs each week for three or four years I’d probably be okay. Read full review

Not worth the leg work
After watching the videos and reading the reviews I had high hopes for the logsplitter, when it arrived it looked solid and assembled easily. I followed the instructions to the letter but as it was the 1st time I thought i would try a well seasoned log. I pumped away until I felt the resistance and thought the next pump would split the log No it just stuck solid, once i had removed the log i turned it around with the grain as instructed same result tried a couple of times with different logs SAME RESULT. To give it the benefit of the doubt I then tried it with a kiln dried log, Nothing but the same result, this is when i lost faith in the product and gave up. I do not know if this item was faulty in some way or just useless but it should have split a kiln dried log surely.
Hand on heart I cant recommend this product.Read full review

Sadly Disappointing
I’m afraid my experience with the product was disappointing, it split unseasoned softwood type logs ok, however, in regard to splitting seasoned wood, it didn’t. I ended up purchasing an Axe, Grenade and a lump hammer to split the seasoned logs for circa half the price.
I should have returned it, but decided not too, as it manages the softer unseasoned logs and I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.
Also a tad annoyed to see it priced at £59.99 on an alternate platform
I think a larger footplate would be an improvement in its operation Read full review

I've tested the splitter with both old well seasoned logs bought from a supplier, and green ash logs from our own felled tree. The splitter worked very well with the commercial logs, but our ash isn't seasoned enough yet to allow the simple leverage mechanism to operate. Read full review

For splitting logs up to the size they recommend, this is a great product, even with fresh, wet logs. I haven't tried logs outside the recommended sizes yet, I imagine at a certain size it could get stuck. But then, you're chancing it! It's so easy for logs up to about 250mm diameter. Avoids the problems of effort and trying to balance awkward shape logs whilst trying to split with an axe or ramrod type splitter. Spot on!Read full review

Very easy to put together and even easier to use. Works very well and does what it says on the box. Even my wife can use it with little effort.

Works fine with normal logs with straight grain.
Much easier to use than splitting axe and 7 lb hammer!

Simple to use and good value.
This is well constructed and simple to use. I have only used it on unseasoned ash at the moment but it dealt with everything I asked of it. Maybe the larger logs will still require an axe but this is great for what it is designed for. Read full review
