Best Tone for the money hands down
I always play thru tube amps. Traditionally I have preferred boutique pedals which can cost 10 times the cost of this for not as many effects. Most recently I was using a Tech21 fly rig ritchie kotzen. Which is great and with my other pedals allowed me to go direct to the PA. This blows that out of the water!. Add in all the in/out possibilities and the stellar amp modeling and it's a no brainer. Ya, it's line6...soooo what. It sounds killer. Buy it or try it and you will see. I'm 100% happy. My rig has been simplified, I can go direct, not lug an amp if I don't want to and every sound you could want is in there. Buy it.Read full review

Not Great for Cleaner Sounds
The Line 6 POD HD500X works OK for metal and heavier distortion, but I personally have not been able to get a sound that I am really satisfied with for clean and moderate processing. I was hoping to use it for recording direct, but it just seems to kill a lot of the tone of the guitar. I even tried purchasing some 3rd party patches with no great improvement to my ear. It seemed to sound better after turning off the amp sims. Why buy a modeler if you don't use the models? I do like its flexibility and ease of use, and the build quality is very good. I just plan to sell it and stick with normal pedals and a mic'd amp Others players may not agree, but my ears just don't care much for it.Read full review

Surprisingly convincing tube amp modeling
After reading countless reviews I decided to upgrade from my POD XT Pro. The primary reason was I wanted more natural sounding overdriven tube amp sound and I got it. In combination with the included stomp box distortion models I'm very pleased. If that's the sound you want, this won't disappoint. I can't comment on the additional addon modules as I don't have them at this time, however If you need the heavier, bone crunching distortion this might not work for you. Oh it will give you a good amount of distortion but not that extreme buzz saw thing. I'm using this in a worship team setting and it works great. Expect to spend some time reading and tweaking. I highly recommend downloading a few patches of players you like as a starting point. I started with Lincoln Brewster's patches which was a nice sounding starting point for me.Read full review

Versatile and great sounds
Awesome sounds. You get many amps and pedals/effects in one floorboard. Super value if you consider the cost of purchasing amps and pedals. Very versatile - can be used for all styles of music. Can switch patches on the fly. I run it direct into FOH. To make it work for you, you must be willing to spend time learning how to do "deep editing" with the free Line 6 software. This is not a processor you use "out of the box."Read full review

amazing sound, and value
I was worried there would be problems because of factor refurbishment. No problems at all.
Extremely good sounding, lots of options, generally excellent functionality. I wish the desktop editing software were a little more user friendly. Nevertheless, it's pretty excellent. I really enjoy this unit and highly recommend it for its versatility and power as an MFX pedal.Read full review

Best Effects processor
Works as a guitar effects, vocal effects, and an interface. My buddy bought a brand new one for 550. I bought this one used from a factory dealer. Flawless and 1 year warranty. This product is a must have for a guitarist who sings...Read full review

HD 500
There is a lot to this product to learn. That being said the sound is incredible. I use it in church setting but it would be great gigging in almost any style. I run it through one of these self powered PA speakers; it can sound like anything from a Fender twin clean to a Marshal stack. Finding out how to do a acoustic required some time on you tube.Read full review

Well worth the money.
This saved me time in coming up with good patches for my HD500. I found some that I still use as my main patches.
Bear in mind you might have to tweak them. I had to add my external expression pedal as a volume pedal to many of the patches. Don't pay attention to who they are supposed to sound like, to me most don't sound like the artist they are supposed to represent. In the HD500 you can add them one by one to a set list and then go through them. Yes it's a time consuming effort, but worth it. Then again, us guitar players are going to endlessly tweak stuff and look for new tones.Read full review
