The first radio arrived with a problem. The second radio I received is working ok. Always be prepared for a possible quality issue with these radios.
This is the 10-watt radio. The radio arrived within a week. Another radio had to be requested from the seller because the first unit had some kind of a power cord problem.
I used Chirp to program the second radio (Chirp is a good program but it lacks a few things-for example, it won't program the radio clock...it is still on China time...or set the transmit inhibit). The first radio even had the correct program cable sent with it instead of some improper knock-off cable that would not work right. The radio itself can be programmed by the front panel, but the process is clunky and monotonous, and some things are not explained well or at all in the manual (a commom issue for Chinese-made electronics).
This radio is perfect for field use since it uses very little power (use good coax and a good quality gain antenna to make up for the power the radio lacks). The radio can be operated from a battery or a small but properly-sized 12-14 volt power supply (I run mine on a small 3-amp CB power supply). The on the air reports have been fair...meaning perfectly readable but not fantastic. I don't get the quality of audio reports I get with my Yaesu dual-bander. This is a low-cost 'beater' radio that I intend to use only in temporary settings or on the back porch with a small mobile antenna on the awning.
Over all, the radio is great for the money I spent (about $50), but be prepared to receive a bad one and have to request another since the quality control on these radios is not the best. Dead after being used twice. Don't waste your money.
I kept this radio as a backup for low power use while on battery power. The 2nd time I used it, the radio powered off unexpectedly and would not power on again. All I get is half of the display when the power button is held down, and nothing after it is released.
The one and only time the radio was used, it was particularly susceptible to intermod and other interference while operating in a state forest (low RF area). I can only imagine how bad this would have been in an urban environment.Read full review

Very nice little dual bander...
I finally had a chance to put this through it's paces, working as a volunteer at the STPR rally. Programming it through CHIRP and through the Leixen application was a piece of cake - even using a friend's spreadsheet with local repeaters. TX and RX both very clear, despite the remote location under heavy tree cover, using a mag-mount on my car. Used both 70cm and 2m bands. Haven't figured out how to scan with it yet, but don't think it will be too hard. It's my first mobile rig and I like it very much.Read full review

Nice "Little" radio
Like I said its a nice "Little" radio. Once I figure out how I am supposed to program it, it will probably work a little better. Haven't had a lot time to try and figure that out as of yet due to my work schedule. Would have been nice if it had had a cigarette lighter plug installed on the dc power cable that was provided.Read full review

Great little package
More then I expected! Better then a hand held, smaller then a moble but does more then either one of them!
This is how I would describe this little radio! I use mine next to my recliner, with my power wheelchair, out on my deck or even on my ATV! It provides me with my favorite FM music, my favorite local repeaters or simplex while out camping with family and friends!
I programmed mine very easily using the microphone the manual way. Once you get used to the steps, it is very simple! If you prefer, the software is free to download.

For a radio under $60 it works fine. With the right software, it was easy to program. I would not recommend this as your first radio, the manual programing is long and complicated.

Decent entry level ham mobile
Understand that this is NOT a Yaesu, but then again it's not $200 or more either. The power output is selectable between 5 and 10 watts which is not a great amount for simplex but should be adequate for hitting your local repeater. I would guess that it might would also make a good starting point for a unit to drag around to a Field Day event although the limited power output might be a problem. The audio is clear and programming is fairly straightforward using Chirp. It's not the best deal out there by any means, but for the money invested I'm quite satisfied with this little radio.Read full review
